Welcome. To purchase a pistol in ca you don't need HSC since you're exempt. Not all long gun need bullet button. CCW permit is depend on your local Sheriff decision.

10 days waiting period rule. 30 days rule on each purchase unless PPT. The only way to buy off rooster new gun is via SSE

30 day rule between purchases only applies to handguns.

Hello SI, thanks for your service and welcome to Calguns.

I'm right up the road from you in Prunedale. There used to be a lot of places to buy weapons around here but the only place coming to mind is Hunter's Supply in Salinas. I would recommend them for your new handgun needs.

Check out the For Sale section on the forum, you may find something local and you can do a PPT at Hunter's Supply or Valley Fabrication (Also in Salinas, Nice guys).

Some guns you can buy from reputable online sites and have them shipped to an FFL locally (Federal Firearms License holder, there are a bunch around here), if you are not finding what you need locally. Most will say they are CA compliant in the description if they are able to ship to us.

CCW's around here would have to be done through your local Sheriff's office, but they are not easy to get...still!

Just below the advertisers banners above you can click on the Flowchart button and read up on what is and is not legal here in CA. Read, read, and then read some more. There is a lot of info here on the site about purchasing weapons. There is a handgun safety certificate test that you must take, available at Hunter's Supply.
