    Hello cal gunners!

Hi guys...new poster here. Ive been lurking on these forums all summer. I'm not new to guns but it has been a while since I've delved into the realm of guns and am beginning to do so again.

In light of that I am trying to get my head wrapped around some of the horrible legislation I am hearing is trying to be passed in California this year. We moved back here from Texas and from a gun perspective I am definitely regretting that.

Anyhow...tonight I am reading articles about this open carry ban and trying to understand it. It makes it sound as though it's illegal for me to go anywhere outside of my home with my gun without a license. Is this true? If so how the heck am I suppose to go to the range?

    Thanks guys!

Welcome, and yes walking around with a pistol open carry is illegal. Transport firearms in locked cases to the range. Def check up on the laws!

Basically.... and that's all I have to say. These "people" make the law so vague and expect everyone to simply, know. They are not obligated to help us understand, rather we are obligated to just know. New laws pass all the time without us voting, but we are required to know, implement, adjust and live by them. Good luck bro, we are almost as much in the dark as you are. Welcome. On Claguns, you are welcome, in CA as a gun owner... not so much

          Thanks for the welcome all!

          I found this...
HANDGUNS Pursuant to California Penal Code section 25610, a United States citizen over 18 years of age who is not prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, may transport by motor vehicle any handgun provided it is unloaded and locked in the vehicle’s trunk or in a locked container. Furthermore, the handgun must be carried directly to or from any motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while being carried must be contained within a locked container.

So it sounds like I can put them in the trunk still and keep my ammo separate away from them while going to the range.
