    New guy from Utah

My name's John and I just registered on this site because I saw the thread about a G36C group buy. I'm not from California. I'm from Texas, but I'm going to school in Utah right now. There's a good chance that I'll move to CA eventually because of my line of work. I also have some family in CA.

This is the only gun forum that I'm a member of. I used to be pretty active in a car forum, but I got to busy with school to really be active.

Gun stuff: I just got my Utah CFP a few days ago and I carry a Sig Sauer P238 (sometimes, it's kind of tough to get used to carrying a loaded gun with me). I also have a Springfield XD subcompact, and remington 870 tactical express, remington 700 .30-06 and the .22 my dad got me before I was born - a winchester 9422. I am a big CZ nut, and I had an SP-01, but I sold it because it was too big to carry and I couldn't afford 2 guns at the time. It retrospect, I should have kept it, but whatever. I'll get another one one of these days.

Here's my wishlist, and my birthday is in june (heh):
    H&K G36C (or sl8 conversion, since I can't actually own a G36C)
remington 700 .308 long range build
    CZ 97B
rem 700P in .338 (after i get pretty good with the .308)
    Dragunov SVD
    Walther WA2000 (heh)

Anyways, this looks like an interesting site. I'm looking forward to learning more about firearms and doing builds and things like that. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but mostly with cars. Gun internals are still mostly a mystery to me. Hopefully you can forgive my being from Texas. At least I'm from Austin, which is basically the San Francisco of Texas.

i feel your pain. austin isn't just liberal, it's militantly liberal, and you better not be caught being conservative or openly admitting to have voted republican. I did convert one liberal, my wife, to shooting. she has her own springfield XD for a carry gun and she got her CFP when I got mine. She wants to trade that XD in for a taurus slim though (???). Hey, it's what she likes.

Also, Texas and California seem to have a bit of a rivalry as far as states go.

Much of California is like that but the eastern half of the state is definitely more conservative, especially in the farm communities and rural areas.

                              Austin...is Berkeley in Texas! LOL

Utah is very gun/hunter friendly. Texas even moreso. As a current subject in the People's Republik of Mexifornia I urge you to move somewhere else and take your family with you. Otherwise you will be taxed and regulated to death to support people who are not fit to shine your shoes. Of course, that's JMHO. ROTF!!

A .308 is easier to manage in an AR10/R25 semiauto than a bolt and great for when you stumble into some cartel's pot farm here in Calif. Otherwise get the .300 Win Mag version and practice shooting from further away. That's my advice...probably worth every penny it cost ya. :-)

                              Well fellow Calgunner...welcome.
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.
