    Newbie From Tehachapi

    Hi all

I shoot a Series 80 Colt 1911 and am the original owner. Its purpose in life is home defense, period. After shooting a G17, I am considering upgrading(downgrading?) to the Glock. Comparing the two, I am clearly more accurate with the 17. Some have said this is a bad move due to the reduced stopping power of the 9mm but I reason accuracy must be included in the equation.
    Any opinions would be appreciated.

And let me add, this is a really fine forum...thanks.

I'm from Tehachapi as well. Welcome to the forum.

The practical stopping power difference between 9mm, 40, and 45 is so minuscule, you'll never need to worry about that. Take a look through some of the sub forums and search a little. Lots of discussion on this very subject.

Welcome to Calguns ZZ. I hope you plan on keeping the Colt and adding a Glock. If the issue is being able to control the recoil then I think it is more important to hit something with a 9MM than miss it with a .45. If it is the ergonomics of the gun then Glock makes 45's, the G21 & G30.

      Good luck.

        Welcome to the forum!

I spent a week working there a few years ago. It's definitely not what most people think of when they think of California! I was working at a Buddist retreat and had permission from a Tibetan Buddist Monk to carry on the property. I ended up having to trespass over a Cloister and, while talking to one of the ranch hands, I discovered that he had given the head pumba nun a '94 in 30-30 because it was easier for her to carry around than her Garand!

Tehachapi is neat place, I have family that lives there. Welcome!

I'd say shoot what you're most accurate with, but that doesn't mean you can't become more accurate with the other option. Until then it would be better to at least hit the target.

I keep one of my 9mm for HD, I know I can hit same hole @ 15 yards all day long. In my house there are no "open" areas longer than that. The layout of your home should also factor into your choice.

I am not sure I can justify the second weapon. I'm leaning toward the G17. I think my wife would do better as well. She is very tentative with the Colt.

Good point regarding the layout of the home. I never gave that much consideration except that my house is two story...bedrooms upstairs so for a while at least, I may have the high ground.
