Hello Calguns...
I think this is my first post here, which is amazing since I have been lurking for awhile, and since that "awhile" coincides with covid those months seem like years. I am surprised I have not posted to the welcome thread until now.
My story (which I will share because I think the community would appreciate the irony) is I have always been interested in firearms, but various factors prevented me from purchasing my own. I would say it was my wife or my young kids, but the bottom line was usually money. Also, I had "access" to firearms if I wanted to go shooting (friends, relatives).
Two things happened that got me into wanting to purchase my own firearm, actually there are probably lots of reasons, but the primary was I sold a car and was able to earmark some of that cash, and I decided I wanted to get better at shooting, and it seemed the only way to do that was to own my own.
That was like 1 year ago. Months of research led me to discover the roster, and the painful practice of crossing my dream firearms off the list (did not fully get the PPT situation at the time). Eventually decided what I wanted around January. Had the convo with the wife, made a few trips to local gun shop to fondle the various objects of my affection. But then my super cheap nature kicked in and I started looking for deals, negotiating, etc.
Feb came, then March, then lockdown, which either closed shops or created long lines/demand. My kids stayed home, wife is essential, so didn't really have time to stand in line. Then got laid off to start April.
So there I was, no firearm at a time when having one for SHTF situations was critical. I also could not in good conscience spend the type of money I wanted to spend with no job. Inventories suddenly dwindled. I had all this time on my hands. I started hanging out in the Marketplace.
At this point I can imagine some of you are aghast at my lack of preparedness, but I will just say I was prepared for SHTF, I just was not happy about it.
Anyway, this post is already too long... I recently got a job (for now at least), made a purchase, and am on my way. I will share more once DROS is done, so like in another year.
Thanks for all the info Calguns... now I just have to break my addiction to scrolling the Marketplace.Comment

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking for several months as well like bendito31. I’m getting into guns again (picked the wrong time inventory and financial wise haha). Last time I purchased a gun was back in 2005 so I’ve been pretty shocked at all the new laws and regulations. I’ve learn a lot reading through the forums here and want to thank everyone in the Calguns community for helping a noob like me to be informed.Last edited by Go4broke; 07-28-2020, 10:29 AM.Comment

Hello Everyone,
My first post here. I wish i could find this forum earlier. I wanted to purchase S&W pre lock revolver and found one on GunBroker. Nice 66 no dash from the first one who only fired couple of boxes only .38 no magnums. Well, since i was new and naive i though that i could have it since i saw few S&W in gun store, so i purchased it, FFL shipped and FFL here told me that i can't have it since it is not on the roster, so i had to ship it back. Now i learn my lesson and know much more about purchasing guns in CA. Hopefully will learn a lot more from this forum and become a contributing member. David.Comment

Hi all, brand new to Calguns. Out four-wheeling this weekend and met some new folks out there. told them about a recent purchase I had made for my first semi-auto pistol. The recommended this site, forums about getting the no stuff. I'm still waiting delivery for my sig. Glad to be here looking forward to learning a bunch of stuff. Future plans are to buy two more handguns and just embrace and enjoy our right to bear arms.Comment
