    Introduction

Howdy everybody! My name is Scott; I've been shooting for a little over 15 years and have been referring to this site for just about that long too. Figured it's time to come out of the shadows and actually try to contribute to what has been an invaluable resource to me. Enlisted in the CA Army National Guard at 18 because I wanted to serve my country AND community. Got out after 10 years in the Infantry and one deployment to Kosovo, ready to focus more on serving my local community. Am currently finishing up my Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Cal State East Bay. When people ask me if I enjoy shooting because I find it cathartic, I have to deny that because it is much more of an exercise in mindfulness and focus for me.

I look forward to contributing to the threads and furthering my own knowledge!

What I've found to be most successful is following a few gun stores on Instagram and Facebook and watching their stories. Not sure where you are located but I just had some good success watching Sacramento Black Rifle, and ASP Solano. They post a quick story whenever they get product in. Then its all about crossing your fingers and rushing in, things are not staying in stock long! Naturally the downside is that they can't post prices on IG or FB. Also, don't forget about Big Five, when I last went into my local store they had a few long guns in stock, but more surprising to me... they had ammo! 9mm, .40, .45, .223, 12 gauge, all the super common stuff that the usual gun stores are having a hard time keeping in stock. Moral of the story: don't forget to check the less than conventional places.

      Good luck with your hunt!

Hello everyone, I just joined this group last night and I'm appreciating the info. I shot many guns as a kid and teenager but hadn't done so as an adult. Long story short, my wife and I went to visit her sister who lives in Montana last month and had a great time shooting some guns. We must have went to 4 different gun shops over there during the week we were there just to see what kind of gun we both wanted to buy when we came back home. Once we came back home and excitingly went to a local gun shop we found out from the gun dealer that both guns that we had set our hearts on ( Glock 43, Ruger SR9) were only available to law enforcement, lol. That's when we found out how ignorant we were on anything guns in California. We have since been to a few gun stores and pawn shops but no luck finding anything we'd settle for. When visiting these gun shops we get this "you are wasting my time so hurry up and buy whatever gun we suggest for you vibe"? So yeah, I think my best bet is buying from a private seller? And now I'm here.

              Welcome S74

Your best bet is to move to another state, but if you are stuck here, Private Party Transfer (PPT) is your best bet.

              Be prepared for sticker shock.

Be careful if you put up a WTB (Want To Buy) ad here, several scammers recently telling you they have what you want. Face To Face meetup only.

              Good luck.

Yes, I'm stuck here, lol, and yes I was sticker shocked. Thanks for the advice! I probably will stay away from posting any WTB in this group. Getting frustrated enough to where I've been considering having my sister in law from Montana gift a gun to my niece her 24 yr old daughter who we kind of adopted as a teen and has been living with us for the last 10 years, lol.

welcome s74. also, have you and wife consider renting guns at your local indoor range to try out different brands? but if you guys are already set to what you want then ppt is your best bet. good luck.

The M&P shield is also something she likes but cant find a new one at any shop. Either way it looks like a PPT is the only solution unless we wait a while.

Hey everyone! Been using calguns for about as long as I've been a gun owner for the past couple of years but have learned a great deal so far but decided recently to actually join. I am a college student (Go Bears!) studying Political Economy and a lifelong resident of the Bay Area. I have always had a passion for firearms from watching old war films, playing video games, reading military history and having family members who have served. Thought I would do my part as an American and also sticking it to our anti-gun state to join the ranks of other gun owning Americans. This newfound hobby has been pretty interesting thus far and hope to continue participating in it more and more.
