Hi, I'm 3rdiguy. I'm a future firearm owner and came here to learn and ask questions before making my first purchase. I've learned how hard it is to acquire the protection I seek in this state when I wanted to buy Smith &Wesson M&P .40 but I can't because it's not on the list and then Glock 19 gen 4. Very frustrating and I won't be leaving soon so I'm settling on a gen 3 unless I can find a gen 4, even at a premium. Thanks for the site and all its members.

Welcome to the forums!
I would suggest an Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm for your first pistol. Glocks are not a great first pistol in my opinion as they don't have an external safety.
Might also want to look into CZ 75's. I would recommend a CZ SP-01 or 75SA or 75B in 9mm.
But if your heart is set on a Glock, get the Glock!
I would encourage you to take some classes and learn to safely handle whatever firearm you decide on.
This forum is invaluable and there is a lot of good, searchable information here for your firearms education

Welcome. For a first handgun, consider a revolver. Ruger makes some really nice, economical revolvers, and if you have a few more bucks, move up to a Smith and Wesson. A rimmed cartridge is the way to go IMHO, like 22, 38, 357, etc but some folks really like moon clips and go with 9mm. Either way, a revolver is a fun way to learn the sport and is a mainstay for the gun enthusiast.
Oh, and don't forget to take a Hunters Safety and/or NRA instructed firearm safety course.Last edited by Jeepergeo; 08-14-2015, 7:35 PM.Benefactor Life Member, National Rifle Association

My only advice is to try to rent a few guns before purchasing. I'm looking to get another 9mm and had a number of pistols that I wanted to try. Turns out that I'm not a fan of 2 very popular pistols (FNS9 and VP9). I would have hated to spend $700+ on a gun to end up hating it.Originally posted by fighterpilot562Damn it man! Welcome to calguns!sigpicOriginally posted by gun toting monkeyboyYou did ask. They were only following your instructions. Next time be a bit more careful in how you phrase your posts. If you give people a straight line like that, this is about the level of response you are bound to get. Just be glad you didn't post "Date this rifle"... Those pictures are usually very disturbing.
