Yeah.....I was thinking the same when that old cathedral burned down.

Who cares about the history.......just build a new one and they will return.

Except that people DO care about history, the reason Notre-Dame is being reconstructed and restored adhering to the same design and aesthetic of the original.
They will only be using modern materials where absolutely necessary. Any stone, brick, wood, mortar, glass, and marble will be sourced from the original geographic locations from where they were obtained when it was originally constructed from years 1163 - 1345.
And due to that, people will return in larger numbers than if they were to just build a new one.

As I mentioned in another thread the other day, the metrics being pushed don't tell the story claimed. At this moment, going to that 'other site,' there are fifteen, TOTAL viewers listed for that site's 10 Latest Posts and that includes members and guests so far as I can tell.
This site doesn't break the stats down that way; but, at the moment we're showing 220 members and 4842 guests on a site with far greater diversity of topics. As I warned, many of that site's members were simply looking for a place to participate and 'community' is more than just about numbers of members. After all, this site lists 352,138 Total Members, but only 6,644 Active Members and those of us who participate with anything like 'regularity' know that those actually posting on the site is only a fraction of the "Active Members" number at any given moment. In fact, we know that many members simply never log out, meaning that I'm dubious with regard to how "Active Members" is defined vs. how many of us would interpret it.
One way or the other, it seems that the 'basic functionality' of this site is coming back (mostly) and that the individual or purpose driven features are being worked on. If I'm correct in many of that site's members were simply looking for a place to participate, it likely means they are, in fact, starting to come back and it remains to be seen how supportive of that 'community' they continue to be. I have no doubt many prefer it over there. However, many of those were never very 'active' posters over here and some of those who have been are discovering that things are administered quite differently over there.Comment

There needs to be a way to reach out to regular users and let them know CGN is coming alive again.
IMO, the current users are the hard headed stubborn members who won't give up.sigpic

I never log out voluntarily.
The definition VB (uses? used to use?) for 'active user' is 'has logged in within the last 30 days'.
Should current performance persist, more folks would actually be able to log in again, which should push that 'Active Member' count upwards.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Sorry was being sarcastic.

I would think new to firearm ownership Californians would be very confused about the Roster.
Looking at old/new Calguns would fill that information gap.
" How did we get here? "
In California before 2000 firearm ownership was so much more acceptable.
Remember going to Longs Drug Store and buying chips, soda and ammo.
The slow steady beat of gun violence by the media has changed the landscape.
Third generation Californians have parents who have been indoctrinated by the Media, School System and Police/Government.
Luckily my dad was not from California but a Yooper and was able to teach me gun safety.
My mom a multi generation Californian was indoctrinated while going to school at UC Berkeley.
Dad could field dress a deer........mom remove meat from a plastic wrapped foam sheet.
2 boys own firearms 2 boys do not.
At least all 4 had the opportunity to learn from a parent and not the internet.
" in·doc·tri·nate

past tense: indoctrinated; past participle: indoctrinated- teach (a person or group) to accept a set of beliefs uncritically."

Yooper may refer to: Yoopers, people from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (the "UP"); Yooper dialect:
The dialect of English speech used by the inhabitants
Dad has lost the dialect but retired uncle in Las Vegas still has it.

Obviously, I'm in with great folks because the wife has said for the last almost 63 years of marriage, not counting when we first started arguing in high school, that I'm the most stubborn person she has ever met.

What I was indicating is that many perceive 'Active Member' as 'active poster' or 'active buyer/seller' and the terms are not synonymous. 'Active reader?' That depends. As I've noted, I 'lurked' for several years and the only section I didn't have the same access to as a member was OT.I never log out voluntarily.
The definition VB (uses? used to use?) for 'active user' is 'has logged in within the last 30 days'.

As you say, the stats will, likely, go up again. But, as I told someone else, stats like that are useful for 'marketing' purposes, but aren't necessarily indicative of actual participation in/on the site beyond staying logged in.
I appreciate the clarification though. 👍Comment

I can't access message or my profile page for a while now. performance in general has improved dramatically compared to 4 weeks ago for me.
Edit:
I was finally able to access the profile section of my page but I can't access my messages inbox.
Is this still a known issue? inbox is dead?Last edited by Blackhawk556; 12-29-2024, 9:40 PM.sigpic PM 4 Front Sight diamond
