Did you say you do not click the "stay logged in" checkbox when you sign in though? I haven't done that yet, but maybe that is the reason... it still seems like it should stay logged in long enough to write a few posts though. Maybe the website has an automatic timeout after a certain time period.

If you're talking about the "Remember Me" box, then no, I didn't click it and I never have.

Insofar as an 'automatic timeout,' that's been a suspicion of mine. It's just that it shouldn't be that short a duration.

As I said, I figure it'll be something that's gotten to when the priorities settle out.

I like that it works.
A couple gripes:
1. No "new posts" button. This made it easy to stay up to date on all the topics without having to go to each forum individually
2. No mobile version like the "iPhone version" that was available on the previous site.
3. Trying to find or view my or other users recent posts when going to their profile. They aren't listed in chronological order starting with the most recent. They seem to be listed from the start of the thread date. Changing the settings doesn't put them in order.

As someone else mentioned, I miss the jump to button at the bottom of each page. Also, the first unread post button usually takes me to within a few posts of the last unread, but I have to scroll and re-read to figure out what I last read. Easy enough to deal with, and overall performance is much better. I just don't like change.

Can someone explain to me how to search within a classified? For example, you used to be able to search "Razor" in the accessories classifieds, and it would turn up a bunch of results, newest on top. Now, it seems the search function searches all of calguns, but only returns a couple results. I feel like I must be missing something...

Not to rehash:

The "Remember Me" appears to be "keep me logged in" - doesn't work most of the time for me (I'm on Safari)

Graphics are clear and site speed is OK. Overall functionality (like go to first unread not being available) is a step down.

Please do accept my appreciation for all you've done and do to provide the platform!!!!!!

Maybe user error, maybe just something not available in this version. And maybe just bitching about something new because I'm stuck in old ways and will eventually get over it.

I don't like that I can only look at "most recent posts" by me or another member. I used the "see all posts" or "see all threads started by" feature a LOT on the previous version and I haven't found (or put a whole lot of time into finding) the equivalent here. Notifications tab is slow. Search sucks. Layout and color schemes seem sterile and boring. I don't like that clicking on a thread title takes me to the first page instead of the last. I've had issues with quote and multi quoting. Smilies isn't as good. No interest in having twatter or facebook buttons on here.

I have a slight lean towards underwhelming, but...if I had only known this version for years and not the other then I likely wouldn't be bothered by this stuff.

1. NEW TOPICS link in the send level menu, just under FORUMS link.

3. On the main use profile page under Activities tab has timestamp descending list of all posts. But click the About tab and you get all the old links, find all posts, find all threads, etc

I have no complaints. I've gotten used to the new forums and where things quickly are. And I like a lot of the features the old forums didn't have, such as -

1.) Auto save when making a post. You can completely exit the page and come back later and choose to either restore what you were writing or discard it. Great feature.

2.) Drag & drop pictures. It makes posting pics soooooooooooo much faster. Great feature.

3.) Like/Dislike posts button. It's just simple, silly and fun to use.

4.) Picture Scaling. Another great feature, without having to take a pic that's way too big and resize first in another program. Just grab the corner of the image and scale to how big or small you'd like.

5.) More supported video URL formats. Nice to have options to post embedded vids from a number of sources other than just YouTube.

6.) Multi-Quoting. Just click "quote" on all the posts you want to quote and then on the upper left hit "Post Reply" and they all go to the reply window. That saves a crap ton of time!

Those are just a few off the top of my head which, IMO, are great additions.


I guess if I had a Con (aside from the known search issue) it would be for me personally, the Twatter and Facebutt share buttons are 100% useless.
Even if I did have SM, I wouldn't be sharing CGN members posts on those platforms...lol Those buttons can get nuked for all I care.

Overall I'm pretty happy. My biggest "complaint" is that the link from email notices used to take me directly to the recent post but now takes me to the first post in the thread. Not much of an issue with smaller threads (almost all) but a bit more effort to get where I need to be in the longer threads.

Still getting used to the rest of the functionality so really nothing else is front of mind for me at the moment.

I've been pretty quiet on the matter, but I just think it's ugly and unfriendly compared to my old friend. I hope I get used to it, I find myself visiting less and less and for years it was my favorite forum.

It fixed, what was by far, the biggest problem: speed. The old site had become practically unusable.

I just figured out how to get back onto Calguns today, so I am still playing around. The look and feel is way different, so I am still trying to figure out where everything is. Honestly though, I'm just glad to be back on. I'm sure everything will fall into place eventually.
