    Thoughts on New Cloud Server

It's been about a month on the vBulletin cloud servers and I'm curious what your thoughts are.
I like some aspects but I'm not sure I'm sold on it as the final answer.
Faster, slower, better, worse, etc. Where on the scale does it fall for you?

Being retired I probably have more time to play with settings and look into various areas. I also have to consider that I running a eleven year old Win 7.

For me it falls somewhere in the middle on most things; search is broken, wasted space with double line Facebook/Twit. Generally I can get what my interests are. I seldom use the market place but those that do have a legitimate concern.

At this point left as is I'd rate it a C+. With more tweaking ?

Thanks for all your work, greatly appreciated

    Respectfully
    Kyle

A little bit closer to whelming than underwhelming.

It's a whole lot better than the year+-long temporary home; it stays useful all the time. Except for the very slow Notifications function, performance is adequate to very good.

Getting the replica of the old theme is a big help.

I am not happy with getting SQL errors when I try to do mod things; that's some kind of bug.

As Kyle notes above, search is broken, and that's a problem.

More generally, there needs to be a user manual for this version of vB; everything I see is pitched at administrators.

I can say the speed is definitely faster than the earlier. I like there is a emoji reaction in the post to appreciate the replies.

I would like the ability to bookmark searches ex: if i want to see only 9mm handguns for sale in the market place I should be able to click my search bookmark and view that vs having to search all new threads every time

Also if there was some way to view the image for sale in the title it would be a huge huge attraction. like attachment Untitled.png

Overall It works better in some ways. The only issues I have are:

          1. I can't group/categorize my subscribed threads. They are all mashed together.
          2. And if I subscribe to a sub-forum, I receive notifications for every single post in that forum. whereas before I would just see a preview of the latest thread.
          3. I can't see a preview of updates to subscribed threads or sub-forums like before.

Note that those who have repeatedly expressed enough vile and incoherent content as to render your views irrelevant, have been placed on my ignore list. Thank you for helping me improve my experience and direct my attention towards those who are worthy of it. God bless your toxic little souls.

I understand the desire to stick with a VB solution, and the site has been working for me just fine. Even search is doing decent for me.

But XenForo is a better product IMO and if you are not going to stick with the cloud hosted VB version, consider XF. Migration should be straightforward with current versions.

Like everything in life - what we were used to in the past, often is replaced by something not as good.

And like everything in life - we live with it.

I am on a 13-year-old desktop running Win 10 and MS Edge. Speed is nice and performance is good. I am using the CalGuns vB6 theme

                Minor concerns:

-Too much wasted space between elements. It could be more compact, but still very readable.
                -Search could use some improvement
-Notifications Panel is slow to load
-I'd like to see the "Forum Jump" dropdown list that was at the bottom of each page reinstated
-I don't peruse the marketplace, so have no comment about it.

On your continuum, I'd place my vote right of center,

Having designed and built a couple of sites, I can appreciate the time and effort it takes to make them work well. Thanks to you and the yeam for getting CG back up and running smoothly.

One of the more or less 'constant' irritations is that the site is constantly logging me off. While, in some respects, it's nice to be able to log back on and have things simply pick up and continue, it's an irritation to be logged off in the first place. I'm not all that cogent on 'cloud' machinations and just assume it's part of the deal.

Overall, the site is 'better' than it was the last year in terms of functionality. Obviously, there are other, continuing problems, such as Site Search not working 'properly;' thus, obviating, in many respects, all the effort to preserve the data bases. Again, I'm simply assuming that is another piece of the 'cloud' functionality where if the thread hasn't been 'updated,' it's invisible.

Is it as 'good' as it was 'before?'

Different = yes. Familiar enough = yes. Needs tweaks and 'improvements' = yes. Usable = mostly, for my purposes. Could it be 'better' = probably.

I think a good deal of the 'disappointment' for many is tied to unrealistic expectations. I get that, for some, things still aren't fully functioning or functional; but, that's not what I'm talking about. Too much of the Internet is tied to 'instant gratification' and such was never going to be the case, no matter what was done or how rapidly.

I think it was asked/answered before - but you have 'keep me signed in' check box clicked, right?

Also, if you 'quit' or 'exit' browser rather than just closing it, it clears cache and will require new log-in entry... you probably know that too though.

I don't think the continual 'logging you off' is a site issue... I'd bet it's something on you end - if not the two mentioned above.

It's not about 'quitting' or 'exiting' the browser. It happens after things like creating a post or 'taking too long' (I guess) to create a post or switching sub-forums or reading a thread and trying to return to the sub-forum menu... all kinds of things.

Insofar as the 'keep me signed in' box (wherever that is now), I refuse to stay 'signed in' in terms of 'always' being logged into the site. If that's the case, so be it; but, it shouldn't be logging me out mid-session.

Given that I'm not the only one who has mentioned it, if it's something along the lines you're indicating, then I'd suggest a sticky. If it's something else, then I figure they'll get to it when other priorities are deal with.

I've not seen the issue from others... I wasn't aware it was common.

I didn't necessarily say it was 'common' and one person's experience doesn't encompass the entirety of the membership.

It happened to me a little while ago, where I was composing a post, hit "Post Reply" and it said I needed to Log in. Kinda hard to be composing a post in OT without being logged in to begin with.

As I said, I've seen it mentioned by others, so I know it's not just me. What I haven't seen are 'continuous complaints.' So, it is possible that something is not right in my settings. It could be something else.

Did you say you do not click the "stay logged in" checkbox when you sign in though? I haven't done that yet, but maybe that is the reason... it still seems like it should stay logged in long enough to write a few posts though. Maybe the website has an automatic timeout after a certain time period.
