Hi Kest!
Would it be possible to get a chat module?

Great idea! Makes it easier to communicate compared to waiting for PMs back and forth.
Thanks, Ernie

This would be an excellent time sink and therefor I'm all for it. Kes?

I've been looking in to it and the biggest concern I would have is server load, I think there are ways to get around that however.
I am curious as to what kind of chat module you would be interested in, a seperate chat page or an embedded chat portion in the forum itself?
I still have to look in to a few things to see what can be done but I want to get a better idea of what you're looking for as well.NRA Benefactor Life Member / CRPA Life Member / SAF Life Member

I was thinking of a separate link on the forum top that took one to a chat room page that showed who was in there and then you could enter and chat. We probably want support for more than one room (so we can send the political debates somewhere else if needed) but I'd want to try it with a single room at first.

^^^ - yes - what Gene said!!!
And also maybe the ability to have private chats (so we don't have to fill up our PM box). Something that was platform-independant would be good (i.e. doesn't require I.E. or Windows).Comment

I'm in, on 2 conditions... I never have to see someone type "a/s/l"
or anything along the lines of...
"I just unzipped the case and now I'm holding my rifle in my hand... it's big and black... I'm stroking the barrel lightly with oil and it's glistening... What are you doing?"

We will need chat mods and that would be a ban...

Yes, I think that people who get out of hand (no pun intended), would get banned, just like in the forums.Last edited by oaklander; 07-11-2007, 4:12 AM.Comment

Okay gentlemen, you asked for it and now you have it!
Right now it is a basic chatbox with little in the way of features, I want to see what if anything this does to the server and as importantly if there is really a big interest in it.
If it turns out to be a big hit and people really want to expand it I've already started the ground work for an embedded IRC client down the road.
Have fun!
