Why was Mike Hass' thread closed?

I did not see any bad language or other forum rules being broken. It was not a high information content thread but came across with good humor. Mike was smart in getting people's attention.

I don't understand why a moderator closed it and I'm making my objection clear here.

While I'm personally glad it was locked (saving me the time from having to wade thru postings to find if Mike ever made a real announcement in there), I don't think it should have been locked unless Mike asked for it.

IMO, Mike saying "standby" w/o giving any time frame made a lot of us think something important would be announced yesterday and had us wasting time cking back again and again to see if he posted something among all the other posts. IOW, it hurt Mike's reputation slightly. Better for Mike to say, "Standby, something important will be announced later (today/this week/this month)."

I wasn't the mod to close the thread, however I agree with the one who did. 91 posts of chit-chat completely off topic is more than enough to warrant closing a thread.

Besides, it was kind of like having a meeting to get everyone together and say that a meeting is needed.

Humor or not, it was an unneccessary no-information thread. This is not myspace or [insert teeny bopper kiddie board name here] forum. There was no topic, hence good riddance.

When Mike has an announcement to make, he can make an announcement. It's rather silly to have an announcement about an upcoming announcement, especially when it's not going to be made immediately, since that just leads to confusion, and unnecessary threads with useless information.

Yeah, I think Mike didn't realize the avalanche of comedy that occurs in the collective OLL addled Calguns brain when someone suggests that a very important but vague event will happen in our near future.

My take was that if you were not interested you could unsubscribe. There were a bunch of people interested enough to keep posting.

I'm worried that we have a lock happy mod here which only leads to things like guncal....

If he has an announcement to make, then he can post the announcement. Having a "pre announcement announcement" thread that goes on for 10 pages without any updates by the OP is a waste.

I hope you can understand this, rather than calling some of our mods "lock happy" and comparing them to gunscal.

I don't see an issue with locking it, the post while fun was becoming a morass of pointlessness.
Mike's post was transformed from a notification post to something far less valuable and not something that fit in the 2A forum. Closing it was the appropriate thing to do on several levels. Wrong forum for humor/joke thread, no real original post context to follow and anything serious Mike would have added would be lost in how many pages of fluff?
Belive me compared to many forums the Mods here are pretty darn laid back. The funny part is I'm pretty much hearing an equal mix of 'why did it close?' and 'why didn't it close sooner?' so I'd say we're pretty much running right down the center.

Mike and all of us will be better served when his information comes out in a clean and uncluttered post so we can act on it.

I have a very strong opinion about all of this.

I believe what happened may be that the whatever situation that was about ready to pop and that Mike wanted to jump on ending up subsided a bit into a 'not quite ready' situation.

If posters who started a thread had ability to close thread that might have stopped the thread from degenerating into horrifying visions of Bill dressed in a unitard rolled in flour....
