I've lived this long without a smart phone, I guess either I deal with it or abstain from forums that are tiny.

I'm testing demo versions of vB5 and Xenforo and I took a couple screen shots of a few changes I've made. These are works in progress so don't judge these as the limits of what we can do.

For example vB5 can have the colors changed to be similar to what we have and I'm trying to find out if Xenforo can be changed to a single column layout like what we have here.

I use 2 or more windows side by side, and there's no white space. Full screen is for amateurs.

Whatever; I have 4 widescreen monitors operating simultaneously and regularly move/swap windows between each. I've got a lot of balls in the air and like to keep my eye on each.

I can be writing a client, watching the attack in Syria, while watching what Exxon is doing in the stock market, as I keep an eye out for anyone posting updates to Anti-2nd Amendment legislation.

Forums using any software can be themed to look in any way possible.

Yahoo Sports used Audentio to build out themes for all Rivals.com forums.

Audentio is a full-service creative agency specializing in UI/UX design, custom platform engineering, and digital strategy.

I can easily live with the format on Rav4World and Toyotanation

I just went a PM to one of the admins asking what they are using, but it seems to be common to all of the Verticalscope forums.

I only have 2x 4K monitors but I don't have any issues with insufficient workspace.

On topic, Xenforo would be my second choice after SMF, simply because the other outfit already has a history of sticking it to people who use the old 'ware.

Me neither; they "float" mounted to a rack. No stands, nothing in the way.

At this point, I no longer like any of the viable choices, but that's irrelevant; we'll all eventually go along with it anyway no matter what we like or don't like and make the best of it. Kestryll still runs a rather tight ship, he'll make it sail as best it can, and Calguns will still be awesome because of it.

Im sure it will be a pain in the rear anyways, but you should consider estimating how much development costs will be to convert to which ever platform you choose, and use that as part of you analysis too.

Once I was helping someone switch forums, they wanted to got vbulletin, and I forget what they wanted where at, some small depreciated forum SW.

There was no way to export directly from the Old to vB, but there was to other less popular forum SW.

So we ended up paying to convert from the Old to a temp forum script and from that convert to vB....funtimes.

                        Interesting.
I checked with one of the admins on Toyotanation and they (Autoguide) are still running 3.8.8, I thought it was newer or a different package due to the appearance, I'm thinking maybe Calguns is customized to look more like an older version given how common the Autoguide appearance is.

My only wish is for a functional Search.

Given that, I'm sure I can adapt to whatever you decide.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything out there that works as well as what we have (as bad as it is).
Those that use the custom Google search are horrible, and the sort order makes no logical sense... pretty much useless.

Yet the internet commandos still reply to new questions with "Use the search button"

                              I would second this.

No updates or improvements anymore just security patches for a while.

This puts a bit of a different spin on things, it seems that if we want to stay with vBulletin it's going to be vB5.

Here is what vB5 looks like in it's generic form: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/
You should update Post #1 with this info and redo the poll, IMHO...
