bringing this back up.
everyday now i'm seeing spam threads at all times when before it was at best every few days.
i'm starting to think this is a targeted attack.
i suggest a 10 post moderation for all new users. first 10 posts must be approved by mod before it can be seen.
or a timer on new users being allowed to post. maybe like 3 days or something. this probably won't stop all spam but at least it may stop some
prevent new users from posting links as their first few posts? set a # of posts they have to have, before they can post links.
i'm sure there are other stuff you can do on the backend that i wouldn't know about but these spam is getting really annoying.Last edited by Scratch705; 05-11-2017, 11:32 AM.Originally posted by leelawBecause -ohmigosh- they can add their opinions, too?Originally posted by SoCalSig1911Preppers canceled my order this afternoon because I called them a disgrace... What is a problem is when you threaten my customer service team and make demands instead of being civil. Plain and simple just don't be an a**hole (where you told us to shove it).Comment

Rather than restrict members to another censorship why not just report the spam threads and let the moderators deal with it. That is what they are here for. Every site is going to have it's "crackpots" but they are the price we pay for enjoying the first amendment.Comment

It's a great idea. One spammer yesterday already had a post count of 5, so I guess you saw that one, too.Comment

Even one full 24-hour period would likely kill it, whether bots or humans. The spam is out of control lately.Originally posted by KestryllI want to be Princess Anastasia today because I feel prettyOriginally posted by QuarterBoreGunnerKes is really just an errand boyOriginally posted by KestryllI am NOT...anything other than a schmuck...Comment

That sounds like ten times more work for the mods than simply deleting the spam as it appears.
How much are you willing to pay them?Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

First post approval.
Can't be too much imposition on the mods. since it seems many more spammers add in than new members.
Mods. welcome to correct me as needed.

I was part of a forum a couple years ago that required new users to reply to 10 posts or threads by other users before they could start threads. Having to physically reply to 10 threads made a ton of the bot spam disappear according to the senior members. Also the humans who wanted to spam links in reply posts could not because they couldn't post links in their replies until they had 15 posts for their account. As a new user it was a little bit of a headache, but I found value in the forum just like this forum so I stuck around and patiently waited to post my own threads. The mods didn't really have much extra workload once the backend was set up, I think that is why the mods accepted that setup. The forums went through a cycle of decreased members, but the new registered members were actual people so it was a nice change.Comment
