As a MOD, when you correct someone... (Long post, is a suggestion)

The world is full of people. We all learn different ways.

I am different than some folks and I did enjoy coming here. Well, I still mainly do. I hang out in the reloading forum and help folks when I can because I like to help people. Calguns got me to come out of my shell and start making you-tube videos to post so that people can get to know Calguns for having cool reloaders...

I also like to see posts put in proper forums and I have come to find that I need to be more careful because sometimes I will threadjack unintentionally or jump on folks and it makes me look like a bully...

I need to work on that, I know. nope, DONE...

I am not a bully. I do not bully people in real life nor on forums. But I will certainly bark at them. In real life, this is a huge campfire and we are all sitting around telling stories...
Recently I got into a spat with Lynnjr. I have nothing against him for what he said to me. We have differing opinions but I really like his sig... Shhh. Do not tell him because I do not want him to change it.

When I do something wrong, I generally like to be told what I did wrong. Maybe even open a dialogue in a PM. I have generally tried to do this with mods in the past and only some mods (the ones I met in person) will give me the time of day. Oh, I THINK there is the exception of Mr. Lone Wolf. I think I asked him something and he took the time to explain it to me. I THINK. I have good thoughts about that guy because of how he has handled himself.

Of course many times I type things out like normal and think nothing of it and low and behold I have upset several folks or "offended" (god I hate that word) several members of one or two beloved subforums and I get chopped off at the knees with the consequences. This has not happened in quite a while because I have decided to stay out of certain forums mainly, but well, we know how easy it is to take actions on a name. Nobody really knows me in person, so I am just a name or another set of characters...

My point is this: as a Mod, when you correct someone or jump on someone or quote them in a thread and give them a warning of some sort and they ask for more clarification in a PM so as not to make a spectacle of the whole event, it would be nice if ALL mods would at least give them the courtesy of a response.

I am sure that many of you do that and that is good. I would rather come here and have fun, enjoy myself and entertain folks because I like to do that, but when someone jumps on my back, and I spend the time to craft a response or two in a PM and then I do not even get a response back like I am on an ignore list or I guess just another face or piece of sand and not important enough to even type back to. I mean, just clarification is really all that I am asking for usually. I want exact granular instructions.

I understand too that many times this can lead to an argument or fight in PMs but that should just be something that comes with the territory. Mods and the Owner of Calguns are my Calguns LEO and when I feel like one of them has taken a pot shot at me and when I ask for further clarification and get ignored for whatever reason, it makes me feel like I should leave and not bother coming here anymore. I will miss the folks here, but what a shame.

I mean, I spent the time to craft a response; the LEAST someone can do is respond back in a civil tone and engage me in a dialogue at least for a message or two. I would certainly appreciate it.

I hope I am not being too provoking here. I am just saying- it would be NICE to get acknowledgement in PMs or something. This IS the proper forum for this right? I saw Announcements and Suggestions so I thought I would come here and SUGGEST something. If I am incorrect, please inform me either here or in a PM so that I can take corrective action and not do this anymore. I do not intend to get on anyone's bad side and I did not come here looking for a fight but I am also not someone who comes here just to buy and sell things and not contribute or assist others. We all like to belong.

I will also add this. When I see someone post an ad in the discussion forum it is a peeve of mine and not so easy to get rid of. I see that someone tried to be sneaky, OR they may start dropping not so subtle hints that they are selling things. That may be in the gray area but I will make a decision gray or not and get on them for what they did. I have done both THAT and reported posts in the past.

IF I were a mod, I would simply delete their post and send them a nice (no sarcasm here) PM telling them what they did and what I did and what they need to do to stay out of trouble. I have ran over that numerous times. Consider that my application to be a mod.

SINCE I am not a mod though, I once or twice sent PMs to folks and gotten into fights. I did not like that so I stopped. I then found a WHOLE set of pics one night that had people pissing in well, places that they were not supposed to be pissing in so I started turning those into WRONG FORUM POSTING memes. I thought it was funny and so did several others. I thought the people wanted to see that so I kept it up. Then I was banned for posting vulgar pics. Even though there was no nudity, just, well, it is kinda funny to see someone sitting in a window with their shorts down and they are doing an impression of a window AC unit... Apparently that offended someone. But after finally asking around I finally got a mod (Possibly it was Retired) to tell me what the problem was. I did not consider those pics vulgar, but someone did and I was banned for it. Well, no nudity, it was kinda funny and some of those you could prolly find on a post card in a college party town liquor store... So I think THAT was a bit of over reaction and I still do not know who did the ban. So then I started doing infographics to demonstrate posting in the wrong forum, I also added a response with links to the correct forums and I thought the response was generally a positive thing. But it is work to do those, convert, rename, upload, post the links. If I were a mod I could just correct the post.

Anyways. I am just saying. I will not fight/argue for no reason, but as you can see (if you are still reading) I like to type and create stories and make people laugh or show things that I find funny or unique.

If you are gonna go into a thread and quote me or flame me, please have the courtesy to respond in a PM since I took the time to type up an explanation of my actions.

This last incident I am finally OVER. Here is my "Jr. Crime Fighter Non-Mod" badge. I am turning it in and I am DONE trying to correct anyone for posting in the wrong forum since I am NOT a mod. Make me a mod and I will work behind the scenes to help make this a high quality set of forums. I know it already is but I can help and I know how to be transparent. Otherwise, you do not need to worry about me trying to help police people anymore. I am done and since I never got my answer, I have made the decision myself. You do not need or want my help as a non mod or else I would be a MOD. I get that. I am not mad or upset anymore and this is my closure and I am at peace with you. I am also not asking to be a mod, but if I am asked I will accept. I do not need power to feel important. I do not need a ban hammer on my side to feel important, but I will step up and help out if it is needed.

Thank you for your time. I hope anyone that has read this that never bothered to explain their actions will give it a second thought next time. (hint hint wink wink Kestryll)

Consider not being too sensitive about the internets.

ps. No one who asks or offers to be a mod gets to be a mod. It's like being a superhero, the power is something you must reluctantly accept. Tough break.

Having been a mod elsewhere, I can say feedback is sometimes appreciated, but ultimately the wish is that no one take anything that occurs on the forums personally. There's decorum, and then there is the realization that most interactions are between people who have never actually met and probably never will. Like the girl in the ice cartoon says, "Let it go."

Just enjoy the good stuff and ignore the rest. In the end, the negative stuff has no real impact on our lives.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I agree, I am not asking to be a mod. That makes me look like a power hungry guy that wants to flash that badge and be the hall monitor.

The mods that I have met in real life will prolly tell you I am an okay guy. I am fairly confident of that statement.

And yes Sarcasm is my weapon ALL of the time, but this last time, I felt that sarcasm would have gotten me banned if not temp, perma because of who and what. And I know how once a flame breaks out in a forum, all of the crows come to sit on the fence and cheer the world champion on against the newcomer... So although I agree and use sarcasm all of the time, this last time, I felt it wiser to delete my response and take it to PM.

It is sad though that there is not a sarcasm font. Maybe that mod was just being sarcastic. I never though of that before. I do not know that particular mod in person though although I picture them as a little hunched over guy that is always mad at everything.

(yes that was sarcasm). or was it.

And while I am at it, I am kinda bummed that some mod deleted my chihuahua story that I told in a thread. I mean, it was based on a real life event, but I thought I did a good job making some of the little details up and it was deleted but not before someone else saw it and laughed...

            Take care guys.

**In the event that I misread, I WILL inject a good dose of Sarcasm into that thread if someone else replies and brings it to light. Until then, I think it should just get buried since it was not deleted after a request. But sarcasm is loaded up and ready to use next time.

You bring up some good points. I usually try to give warnings via PM and usually respond to PM's. It sometimes takes me several days depending on what I have going on in my "real life". In addition to being a MOD on there, I have a wife, two kids, and another on the way. I am a full time high school agriculture teacher and an FFA adviser (which requires me to supervise projects, fair, leadership events...). In addition to that I farm on the side and am a reserve fire fighter. I am not saying this to toot my own horn, but to point out that we all are busy and have to fit this gig in around our other lives. There is about a 10,000 to one member to mod ratio and there are days where we are just slammed and probably will not get to everything. Even I have been waiting for several days to get something taken care of by one of the guys above me...

I think I am rambling now. I am very tired. I have been studying for hours for my masters degree written exam which I am taking this week. I am going to bed now but will leave this parting thought. I do not think that the comment that most mods will not give you the time of day is not quite fair. I think most of us do our best to communicate with the members if we can.

Sounds like the OP needs some real world problems. It's amazing how they put forum issues into the proper perspective.

In short, just get over it.

If you disagree OP, please PM me so I can ignore it.

I had been sent a warning by mistake by a mod once and he quickly corrected himself for his mistake after I PM'd him. It is nice to get feedback from a mod and if there is not enough active mods to take care of everything then just add more. People who are in trouble do need special attention, thank goodness I don't get into trouble

Good, it was never your place to be barking at, correcting or policing others in the first place.

Maybe you can fill this new void in your life by yelling at the young whippersnappers driving past your house to "SLOW DOWN DAGNABIT!"
