    No, non-moderators cannot delete threads.

Members can delete their own posts - except the first post in a thread, which deletes the thread.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason for that?

I too have some old threads (stuff that has sold, etc.) that serve no purpose any more which I would delete if I could.

On other forums I belong to, the thread starter can delete their own thread.

Wouldn't it save you guys bandwidth if we could prune the dead wood?

      Not complaining, just wondering.

        yup.

        7) Edit the title to show your items have been 'Sold'.
Once you have sold the item(s) in your classified ad that you have in the Marketplace, edit the title so it's obvious that the item(s) have been sold'. Do not create a post just to say your item is sold. The moderating team does not delete threads simply because a transaction is completed, so please do not ask.

I'm not an IT guy but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with bandwidth... It would save storage space on the server, but it's a tiny amount of data in comparison to everything else on the site... So there really is no technical benefit.

When I've gone back to see posts I bought items from, I've seen people who will edit all the original content to oblivion with dashes as to eliminate information.
Only tell tale sign something was for sale was the fact that it was originally posted in a Private Marketplace-whatever guns Forum.

I thought I have deleted my own threads in the past.

I think there might be a time limit though. I recalled a certain thread or two that I had started and then within a few minutes went back and deleted the post and because nobody had posted or because it was within a certain time frame, I was able to delete it. Other times I went back to delete something and I can ALWAYS delete my post, but not always my thread.

Once I was going to just start deleting all of my posts I ever made because I did not like that I was approaching 5k posts so I started to delete and damn that was hard work. Then I decided just the stupid little responses that do not do much but make a joke or two and then I found that I was spending too much time and I had only deleted like 50+ posts.

Based on some things that I saw happen here and the way they were handled I figured that it was best to move on, so I was going to delete every post I made, cool photos or not and wipe out my existence here and then just go away. But damn I hate that some of those posts have unique knowledge or creative stories.

So now I am on the fence about what to do. Yeah, if I could delete all of my **** and go away I might consider doing that. I like calguns and all, but well, it is just a place for me to interact with folks and spend time sitting on my *** instead of reloading or cleaning up things or throwing out things.

Oh yeah, another thing that doing that would do would be to delete a lot of my range reports with loads and data for the Desert Eagle that some people have found very useful. I hate to deprive people of things they can use.

If no one else has posted in a thread you created you can delete your post.

Otherwise, you have to edit out the content if you want to remove that portion.

If your post is not the first post in the thread, you can delete it.

If someone has quoted your post, that quote will remain even if the original post is deleted.

I think that covers the basics of "Deleting Your Posts, and You"

I'd like to see people simply add SOLD to the beginning of the title and leave everything else intact.

You'll stop getting inquiries and It helps the community to know the price range items are going for.

It's nice to see that when 'X' is listed in the $500 range it sells and when it's listed in the $600+ range it never sells.

No need to add what price was finally negotiated or anything else .. just leave the original ad with SOLD in the title.

You should be free to delete your own content, and you are.

But it is the decision of the site owner, in any VB installation, who should be able to delete other members' content. If one member starts a thread, and other members reply, deleting the first post deletes every participant's content as it deletes the entire thread.

Yeah I have done that. If I saw that someone quoted me completely then I will sometimes delete my entire post or two. No need to keep it since they have me quoted.

Agreed. This site is successful because it is a large repository for firearms related information. Removing pertinent information from sales threads after you have benefited from their use is extremely selfish in my opinion. If you consider said information sensitive, you probably should not be airing it in such an accessible medium in the first place.

I was told before that since the itrader rating is linked to the FS thread, deleting the thread would mess up itrader. Not sure if true, just what I heard.
