    Stability issues and site ownership

Kes, or whoever is maintaining this site.

How can we, the CGN community, help solve the issues with this site and it’s ability to remain running 24/7/365.

Also, what would it take to change ownership?

Ive been a member for nearly 20 years now, and this is a honest question for you. I’d like to discuss purchasing the site.

I'd rather have you buy it than that TDS safe space reddit raccoon

Most of the time I still have access to pointy elbows, yoga pants, and butt stuff. So I’m still happy

I know just about zero on computers

lots of sites - like snipers hide run well.

i don't know how much the software costs and admin costs vs ad revenue

the hide went to paid membership for the classified section- keeps trolls out and generates revenue

The way I see it there are only 3 options:
            1. Get help and fix the site.
            2. Sell or shut down the site.
            3. Eliminate remove non Contributors, and plod along with a smaller group paying membership of $29/yr.

            What other options are there?

            I vote #3 😎

Not sure what the advertising revenue, and membership brings, but I would venture less than $200k.

I’m still waiting to hear from anyone.

I genuinely want this site to continue to be here for all our 2a community members and if I can help facilitate it, I will.

Which was the declared plan a little over a month ago.

As I warned, nothing was going to happen instantaneously and it gets tiresome hearing complaints, declarations, "Let me buy you out" cajoling, etc. when it doesn't.

If you honestly read that post, he's got more to put back together than just this site.

Personally, I'm not sure how much more patience I'm gonna have; but, I'm willing to exercise a bit more.

I’m here for the duration! Too much history here for me and I’ve learned a ton since becoming a member. I hope the best for Kes, and for Calguns!

                      Good to see.

Just bear in mind that your 'vote' above runs contrary to something Kestryll already addressed; i.e., his promise to keep .net free to join/participate and his intention to keep that promise. As several of us have indicated...

If I were confident that these latest problems could be solved by throwing cash at them and having a website that has been as reliable as one like - https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/ - for the past 20+ years, I would certainly pitch in. I donate to charities when I see them pursuing and getting results, and usually because they are 100% volunteer (no payroll for anyone) not simply because they ask for money.

Is funding/cash really what is holding Calguns back in ability to run like that Corvette Forum? Not being a jerk, that's an honest question. Will throwing money at this apparent unknown technical problem actually make a difference? You can fund a Formula 1 car all day, but if there is a technical issue, and the pit-crew can't figure out the problem, how will giving them more money solve the issue if they don't know what is wrong with it in the first place?

For that matter, anyone spending their valuable time to post original content or contribution here at all, helps make money for this site. "Paying member" is not necessarily in the form of cash.

Content is money, and the site is getting that content for free while gaining ownership to it as intellectual property in the process. Views, clicks, and residual feedback to that content further create free material on which the website is profiting. Content is money, and if you get it for free, ever better; ask any social-media influencer or Youtuber, and the replies, likes, and feedback also help them earn revenue from it.

Whatever it is now, I bet it was worth a helluva lot more back when a bunch of people were trying to help fix it for free, or buy it and fix it. Now the value has certainly crashed, since it's known to be so unreliable and lost so many users.

This is where I'm at. High hopes but low expectations. I'll keep dropping in until it's gone.

                            One little problem:

There are currently 15302 users online. 126 members and 15176 guests.

I know the internet is full of bots like me, but this is ridiculous. Is the gerbil flooding the site to take it down?
