I see very little of that there and it’s boring as hell, they seem to have a no fun agenda.

I don't need California specific gun info any more, but I still enjoy Calguns for the knowledge, wit and fun. Been hanging out here for almost 15 years, got history here and no reason to join that other place. If Calguns goes the way of the Dinosaur, I’ll be done with California gun forums.
That does appear to be the case, for now.

But if you were to go back to early Calguns, around 2002 through 2006 before OLL/OLR, bullet-buttons, and SSE/SAE, AOW exceptions all started, when Ramon had the site, its early atmosphere was much the same way.

There was a large amount of naïveté about guns, tween-aged atmosphere, and bumbling in the dark about anti-2nd Amendment legislation. Hell, many of those members are in their mid 40's now!

(I was on the site very early, but lost my original user-name from Ramon's server crash around 2004. At that time I was more often on Biggerhammer or AR15.com, but trying to return here years later, I had to start over. Calguns then became my primary/sole gun forum outlet thereafter - and for now.)

iTrader was never ported from the author from vBulletin 3.x and was just an excuse to not upgrade to a modern platform. The nail in the coffin of this site was: 1. The owner's complete neglect on keeping the software up to date (vBulletin 3.x was actually a severe security risk for users in the last few years), 2. running the host on a PC on a closet, and 3. Just general incompetence for managing a site with this amount of traffic. Clearly no effort to learn how to actually administer the current version of vBulletin was made, and that has nothing to do with the SaaS or privately hosted version. Excuses that there were no migration tools to other platforms like Xenforo for sites of this size were completely false. They exist, you just have to pay people who know what they are doing. This site can be saved, and I have to knowledge on how to do it. But apparently the owner no longer cares, as evidenced by his last login activity.

        It's dead Jim.

The blurb at the very bottom of the forums about members and users activity says:

"Welcome to our newest member, Dbrewbrew."
          His profile page then says:

For real? No 'newest member' since August 2, nearly 3 months ago? Doesn't that signal there's a problem?

I’m lucky if I reach this site 10% of the time.

How can anyone tell if it's slow. I haven't been able to get on for an entire day.

Not my sandbox but if it was i would feel pretty inadequate.

Almost impossible to get on the site anymore especially during daytime hours. I managed to get in due to the low traffic at 5:40 on a Saturday morning. It’s really sad . I loved this site.I’ll check in weekly to see if it’s still going .” Stressing “ Calguns to see if it functions as it should think we have an answer. If this ship sinks anyone who I did business with in the past are all awesome .Lots of very smart individuals here and I’m glad I was apart of it since 2017.

First time I’ve been able to get on in a few days. I usually just try once and then forget it for the day.

Posting is getting painful. If I can even reach the site, it frequently crashes when I try to post something.

It's dead. Maybe we should all put a photo of the Calguns.net logo on the ofrenda for Día de los Muertos Websitos tomorrow to help it cross over.

That might help get it through the 504 Gateway.

So the visitors are bots ? 6,500 "guests" + vs 80 members ? The site is swarmed and infested and ruined by site maintenance that can't fight off the BS ?
