Hardware compatibility issues I think... old server.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that was the explanation from the beginning...

It been so long, and so many variations of issues, that I'm not sure anyone really knows anymore.

After some back and forth getting SSH (Shell Access) set up and working for the vBulleting Support team I received this email today.

Ridiculously slow. Has calguns gone back to dial up technology?

What used to be a great informative site has turned into a frustratingly slow, almost unusable forum that is but a shadow of its former self.

Couple that with the weird punctuation issue, and you end up with a website that is naught but a joke.

And such a shame. Calguns used to be my number one web destination, but now I click, wait a few seconds to see if I get any response, and then move on to any one of the millions of other sites that don?t seem to have these problems.

I?m running Netscape Navigator on a fresh install of Windows 95. I saved a whole spool of ?60 minutes free on AOL? CD?s for occasions like this. The site is blazing fast on my 33.6 pipe.

Since the site is slow right now I was playing around after clicking on an OT thread to read, scrolling the page and clicking some other threads and, when the page finally did load, it didn't load any of the threads I clicked on, or the original one, but some completely random thread.

I tried it a few times to find some pattern and couldn't. It was always random. Perhaps it has something to do with the work being done for the upgrade but usually that stuff is done on a parallel iteration of the database that we can't interact with.

^^^ I'm not a 'tech' guy, but you likely 'thought' you clicked something that was different from what the site was recognizing... the lag in loading had you click an anomaly... it looked like one thing, but in reality it was something else (the software loaded the something else, which is what you actually clicked even though it looked different).

I'm sure there's a technical term for it... but I'm guessing that what happens.

Hopefully, the software upgrade fixes the severe performance issues. If not, then the user abandonment death spiral shall accelerate.
