To Whom It May Concern,
Effective immediately, RifleGear will require both parties involved in a Private Party Transaction (PPT) to provide all required documentation at the beginning of the DROS process.
There have been multiple instances where the purchaser could not provide the required documentation before the DROS expiration date. On inventory items, this isn't an issue because the gun simply remains an inventory item until the purchaser can provide proper documentation. However, in a PPT situation, when the DROS expires or is otherwise invalidated, the gun must default back to the seller (regardless of any money exchanged between the purchaser and seller). This creates a multitude of legal, logistical, and ethical issues where firearm law and property law conflict. In an effort to minimize the occurrence of this situation, we will require PPT purchasers to provide all required documentation up front (valid ID, HSC, proof of residency, permanent resident card, etc). If this documentation cannot be provided before the DROS is initiated, we will be unable to process the transfer.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
