Dros fees.

Fees:
Dealer Sale:
The DROS fee is $25 under state law. Some dealers charge more than $25, but they are technically breaking the law.
PPT:
Private Party Transfers (PPT) are $25 plus an additional $10 per firearm. So one firearm would be $35, two would be $45, etc. (also capped by state law).
Dealer Transfers:
Dealers may charge whatever they choose for transfers shipped to them (by private individuals and other dealers) as long as they do not misrepresent the transfer fee as a state fee. We charge a $60 transfer fee per firearm plus the $25 state DROS fee. You're also liable for sales tax on all firearms sent from other dealers, unless they're a California dealer and you've already paid state sales tax through them. Firearms sent from private individuals do not incur sales tax.

only if they try to pass off the additional fees as state fees.
As long as they note that it is a dealer fee, it is not illegal. For instance, some dealers charge $30 for Dealer Sales, on the invoice, the $25 in state DROS fees are broken down ($19 for this, $1, for that, etc) and then on a separate line is a $5 dealer fee (and sales tax is charged on that $5, but not the $25 in state fees).Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

i have never paid more than 25 dollar to dros a weapon at riflegear. others charge more for some reason, and for the life of me i cant figure it out. i guess the profit off the pistol/rifle is not enough for them. sticking the customer an extra 5-10 bucks is a crummy way to do business. kind of like the big chain store around the corner from riflegear.
thanks riflegear.
when is the next no dros fee sale? i bought two rifles on the last one.Comment

I paid $25. It doesn't seem to be necessary for a dealer fee seeing how well business is. I gladly waited 45 minutes for my lower.Comment

That is correct. I've only personally seen one dealer do that and the invoice did state that it was a separate fee, but the fee was still named "DROS" so to a customer it may be confusing.only if they try to pass off the additional fees as state fees.
