What's the key difference between the AK and non-AK forends other than the price?

I would say mainly the look of it. One is a hunting forend and the other is not. It is more expensive and difficult to convert a hunting style forend to a standard AK forend. Id much rather shell out the extra money for a standard AK forend and just convert back end.

@rexblaine... AK foreends are "authentic" looking. Saiga foreends are longer and cover up the gas block. Pictures are on the website at www.riflegear.com.

They have the AK gas block and fsb. The fsb is also threaded for muzzle devices.

I've done a couple myself, but we don't really have the resources available for us to offer this as a service at this time.

The Saigas with the AK front end (not the regular ones) do have 24mm threaded barrels under a very (very!) lightly spot-welded cap (for importation reasons).

It is completely legal to remove this cap.
