HSC still good for Handguns, right?

I bought a handgun online that I intend to DROS next week. I understand from the CA DOJ website that HSCs are good for handgun purchases until the HSC expires. Is this correct?

I don't get it? If your HSC expires in Dec. 2016, then it's still valid. If your driver license expires in Sept. 2018, guess what, it's still valid.
