A few questions regarding the 30 mm red dot.
Will it handle the recoil of a 308?
What mount is the lowest to give a good cheek weld?

Go with a Micro Dot. Higher recoil rating and sits lower

Is it similar to the Vortex Sparc? I've handled that RD and its a little small for my taste. Any shops carry the PA micro?

Can't answer that, but here is what I did & it works well for me. Aimpoint C3 with their mount.

Not perfect but decent & usable. I had an eotech on before and it was just too high.

If it bugged me, I could use a thin wrap around cheek riser but so far so good without it.
