Do you sleep with the light on or off? Why?

Does anyone have a psychological fear of darkness?

I always was told that it is better to sleep with the lights put off as it can affect our melatonin.

But some people need the lights even when they are sleeping. They are probably terrified of not being able to see the surroundings around.

I also can not find my way from the bed to the door when I get up in the middle of the night to piss.

So I would like a dim nightstand lamp to make me feel safe.

Do you have any Nightstand lamp? Is it good for sleep?

I only need light to see. I can't see with my eyes closed. When I'm sleeping, my eyes are closed. So no, I don't need a light on when I'm sleeping. Why waste the power?

Usually there are small appliances like clock/radio with indicators that are bright enough to serve as nav beacons for those midnight pee-pee trips.

Some people like "night-lights", small single digit watt lights that plug in and emit a very faint light, just enough to keep from tripping. If you really think you need something, this should be enough.

I can't speak to someone being afraid of the dark to the extent that they sleep with the room lights on. Not sure which is cheaper, the lifetime of unnecessary wattage burned, or the therapy to get over it. Maybe someone else can illuminate you on that topic.
The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.

When I was a kid, I’d ask my father or mother to leave the door cracked open just a tiny bit. But now I like to have all the lights off. I do have a small light on in the bathroom so I can more easily find my way there and actually hit my target. But in general, I prefer darkness.

Lights off. Like to see the shadows of the trees or the moon and stars. We have a lot of night sky light up here. I often think my bedrooms Windows look like paintings at night. Love it!

I wear my sunglasses at night.

And my night vision goggles to find the bathroom.

But seriously, I've heard several "experts" claim that you should have close to total darkness for proper rest.

What I find strange about that is we / humans were living outside under the moon long before we went into the darkness of the cave so what about the fact that there was a bright full moon approximately every 29 days?

Or the fact that all those many years we spent in a cave, someone was probably stoking the fire all night to keep the cave warm in the predators out.
So for all 200,000 years that Homo Sapien has been around we all weren't getting proper rest?

What kind of psychopath sleeps with the lights on at night?!

I will say, some of my best naps have been taken in broad daylight under the shade. But at night, complete darkness, I even like to have blackout curtains to block out the moon and any other ambient light from neighbors/streetlights.

Clap on, Clap off? (The Clapper.)

Get a smart outlet from Amazon and use it with your reading lamp.

Motion detecting night light if you can place it out of range unless you stand up or similar.

I sleep full dark with (almost) blackout curtains.
Even the low light night lights are too bright for me when sleeping.

                            Something like this maybe:

This is such a strange thing for a vendor to post in their sun forum
