Specific to olight criticism, battery constant lumens runtime. Claiming 1000 lumens is deceiving for example when it only lasts for 60 seconds. I expect more like petzl or black diamond with runtimes accurate by power output.

Most important thing? That it makes light.

Actually what is most important to me is a flashlight which works even after sitting for months.

                    Most important:
                    Make sure it's not LED.
They will stop working before end of battery.
A regular bulb will work until no electricity is present.

Hands-down the most important thing about a light source when you really need it at night or in a dark area is the ability to use it hands-free.

If you spend any time in areas where people actually have to be out at night or be in a dark place working for any length of time ( like a coal mine, the woods or dark tunnels) they almost always have moved away from flashlights and gone to a headlamp style lights. There's so many things you cannot do unless you have two hands. Everything from shooting a long gun to writing on a piece of paper while holding a clipboard and a million things in between.

Having the ability to use both your hands to solve the problems/ work in the dark or just navigate through the woods while you're carrying something is priceless.

Personally, I like the lightweight rechargeable headlamps that have a click type angle adjustment, so that if you get tired of wearing it around your head ( it happens after while, trust me) you can open up the headband a bit, flip the light over and wear it around your neck and use the click type angle adjustability to shine the light in front of you as you walk. Although that with that method you lose the ability to light up things with a quick turn of your head it's also a nice positive if you're walking with someone and you occasionally looking at each other because then you don't make your friend night blind, just by looking at them with your face / headlamp.

Please pass all that information up to Olight. I'm sure they'll think it's worth at least one of their lower-priced headlamps for free, or as they like to call it " on sale ", which is real close to free.

The whole world needs to make the jump to headlamps. How's that for a big new customer base?

But to give you my opinion on your original question...

                            1. Battery & Runtime... the battery should be lightweight so you can wear it on your head or keep it in your pocket easily, preferably rechargeable and replaceable if possible because who needs to keep replacing regular batteries all the time.
Run time should be as close to as the manufacturer can get to about 12 hours that allows you to get through dawn to dusk, even if it's at a lower/ lowest setting than the brightest the light is capable of.

                            2. Output/lumens... adjustability is best with a super bright, medium bright and low light being the minimum and red LED light so you don't ruin your night vision being the extra bonus that experienced people/ the military might prefer.
Those super bright quickly flashing strobe lights I consider more of a weak defensive measure. The SOS type flashing also seems something that young people these days might not even recognize the signal of help/S.O.S, so those two really are not needed for a headlamp but maybe if you're a secret agent or get lost in the woods (around old people who know what SOS means) a lot.

                            3. Budget... these days this is the most important thing. You have to offer a low-cost option to get people in the door and using your product. I've convinced people to switch over to headlamps by having them use just the cheapest non-adjustable standard battery type headlamps. Once they start using your product they are more likely to stick with a brand they like but upgrade to a more expensive light the next time.

                            P. S. I also love those Olight mini rechargeable keychain flashlights ( the i1R 2 EOS Keychain flashlight kit type) but I have lost two now, possibly because that little round split key ring holder was / is not strong enough ( or maybe a friend took the second one as a joke? Only they would know I would keep looking for it for a long time.) I still think highly of that product but I'm not sure I'm going to get another one until I can figure out how to mount it to my keychain without it being torqued off probably due to rough handling my gear gets.
But even with the rough handling those mini lights took they kept working strong, until I lost them, so that says something about good quality right there.
