my understanding is that it can take heavy ball.. C.f. the relevant threads on akfiles. I believe the question does come up.

Are these able to handle heavy ball ammo like the veers or ares these more like the psl strength wise?

Right. the BHAK-54 has the short stroke conversion which allows you to use heavy ball. check out this thread, if you haven't:
