It's been covered before. The Glass Factory in Santa Barbara is the closest non-regulated public range anywhere near VC. It's still closed for fire season and it's still 1+ hour drive each way from most locations in VC, especially if you live on the other side of the hill or places like Simi.

I'm sure there are spots where you can "pull over and shoot", but you'll be driving well into the hills or the deserts. I've tried many times to ask this question, basically no one is interested in sharing their secret spots.

If you ever make it up to the Glass Factory or check the clean-up threads, you'll know why people don't share and you'll know why there are less & less places to freely shoot every year. Even the Glass Factory can be permanently closed at any time.

Ive helped clean up the Glass Factory eventhough I had never shot there before - I wouldnt share my spots either after seeing that crap. I have private spots around VC and even those get dumped on periodically

I mean I'm willing to drive an hour and a half to two hours. Just not like 3 or 4.

Personally, I don't go to public areas dues to hazards of not knowing what or WHO is behind the targets I'm shooting at. I just to go to Wes Thompson's Gun and Rifle Range in Piru. Not too far and has a great layout.

              Good luck and happy shooting!

It would be nice to find a "close" spot to fire off just a 22. I tried to go to glass factory once and it was closed due to fire season. As was already mentioned, ou dont know who is there and people dont clean up after themselves. Its a shame....
