Looking for high quality ranges in this area

To give you an idea of "quality", I'd define it as state of the art air handling, multiple bays for different levels of membership, access to a fully equipped cleaning room, wide shooting benches, well lit and so on.

To be honest, I've never shot at an outdoor range, so that could be a new experience for me. Obviously air handling would be a different issue...

Been looking online, but can't help but feel I'll get clearer feedback from folks here.

If I were putting a pin in a map, circles out from Simi Valley.

What ranges have you been to that offer stuff like that?
Every single indoor range I've been too across the country looks almost exactly the same.

(As stated, I've never been to an outdoor range, so my questions pertain to indoor ranges (which is clear to me, but perhaps not so clear to others in retrospect).)

I'm a member at West Coast Armory in Bellevue, WA, which has everything listed. That's what I'm comparing against for indoor ranges. Outdoor ranges I wouldn't expect to have much in the way of amenities, but I have no frame of reference there, so could be incorrect.

Simi is almost LA county so its possible something in SFV would be closer as far as indoor ranges, sadly I can't help you there.

In Ventura, Islandview Enterprises has a clean place. I've never purchased there, but the staff as far as I've experienced is pleasant and helpful, you see the same guys time after time (which to me means a good relationship between workers and management). The RSOs inside the indoor range are very helpful and watchful, I've never felt unsafe. And they are a Calguns Monthly Shoot sponsor, you can go check them out for $5 on the last Friday of the month.

For outdoor ranges Piru is probably closest to you, $20 shoot all day. They have paper at 100/200 (I think) and steel from 300 to 1000 on the top of the mountain. They have spotting scopes and I think Mike Thomson even has a Chronograph he'll lend you, but don't quote me on that. Weekends only AFAIK, and no membership required.

After that its OakTree to your east, and Ojai Valley Gun Club to your west. OakTree is a full service outdoor range that I've never been to, but they had a bit of a political dust up with the Armatrix people and helping to get microstamping added to the DOJ handgun roster... so lots of Calgunners are not so friendly toward them. But many happy customers, if they are a bit expensive.

OVGC is a membership org as well, but members can come up any day/time that they are not running events (mostly morning, every weekend day) and do whatever you want (except shoot the pistol and cowboy action steel targets with rounds they are not designed for, big no-no). They run monthly events for most types of shooting, and you do NOT need to be a member to do the shooting events, just pay your $10 (also $10 if you are a member).

I second the vote for Island View Enterprises in Ventura. I've purchased a handgun there...went extremely smooth and fast...as well as shot there multiple times. Great staff.

For outdoor, Piru is good, but I prefer to go to A Place To Shoot behind Santa Clarita. Staff is very friendly. There are multiple ranges to enjoy. The drive is even relaxing.
