Off topic..looking for a good car mechanic in the area. Issues with 2000 4runner

I'm looking for a good mechanic to work on my 2000 4runner. Having some front end vibrations issues at highway speeds. My current mechanic doesn't seem to be able to figure it out. We heave done the standard stuff. Balance wheels, turn rotors, etc. I'd rather not take it to the dealer. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. RM

Are you talking about the rattle that occurs at around 70? Enough to rattle the ash tray full of change out?

If so .. replace your shocks if you haven't the stock Bilsteins are pretty soft..

It's not a rattle per se, it's a more of a low frequency vibration, like a rumble that does start around 70. I can feel it in the steering wheel and the it vibrates enough that the rear view mirror looks blurry when looking back. We changed the shocks about 2 years ago for the same issue. I don't know what brand the new ones are. I'll looking into that. Thanks.

Give Rob's Remedies a try. He's a pretty good and honest mechanic: http://www.yelp.com/biz/robs-remedies-ventura

Not sure if you still have the issue, but Duran Truck and Auto in Simi off Easy Street is great.

Rotate the front tires to the rear and see if the vibration goes to the rear.

If it is 4 wheel drive with automatic hubs, and they're dragging the half-shafts a bit, you could have a bad CV joint.
