Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad is closing.

After 57-years in business, North County San Diego's Tip Top Meats European grocery and restaurant is closing its doors later this year.

Big John passed away in January 2023 at the age of 94 and his adult children have been running Tip Top Meats ever since. We've received word the European market will close at the end of September following nearly seven decades in business. There is no known reason for the closure. We reached out to Tip Top Meats email to get a comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
    It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

I had the all you can eat breakfast at Tip Top many a Saturday morning to celebrate surviving another week at work. Big John was good guy. If you bought a pig, sheep, steer at the Del Mar Fair FFA auction he would butcher and pack it for you. When Captain Keno's got tired of a Bible study group meeting at his place on Saturday mornings, Big John took us in at his place on Friday mornings. I believe Keno's is already gone now too.

This sucks! Been a regular there for about 15 years. Hope they do open another location.

Sad. Many fond memories there. Started going in the 80's because I was dating a German girl, now my wife. It was Tip Top, Sausage King in Hillcrest, on W Washington, Ingrid's Delicatessen in P.B. Sausage King was on my beat.
