I have something to say about Pink Gate (BLM shooting land)

Both as a land surveyor and as native Californian 2A supporter, I have something to say about the current condition of Pink Gate. I went there today to take my pop shooting, I could not believe the amount of garbage ALL OVER the shooting area. It downright pisses me off! Who the hell is coming here and leaving all their trash!! Obviously, they do not care if this location gets shut down.

All I got left to say is:
F U C K YOU, A.L.M. (see pic, those are the initials on the trash)

The only ones who will be offended by this post will be those that don?t pick up their trash.
    F U C K YOU TOO, LAZY P.O.S.

It is sad what has become of many areas where folk could go to shoot. I do not blame those who work to see open areas shut down, as target shooters have fully earned those closures. Many are only one rung above the homeless vagrants that foul the streets while leaving trash and who knows what else all over the place. They are nothing more than human vermin. They ruin the 2A for all of us.

I totally agree with your assessment. I have passed by there many a times and thought it would be nice to shoot there. Im going to take some trash out instead.

        Count me in!

        Hey bro,

Count me in! I have a trailer and I can check if my trash collector (Edco, La Mesa) will allow me to dump for free.

Usually, I am Mr Positive but the amount of trash I saw today was basically the last straw to self entitlement.

Anyways, if I can make it to your very appropriate self clean up I will. At the moment, the best time for me is Saturday and Sunday afternoons. There is S H I T all over. I have attached a picture of how much area there is to cover. Even the slopes of the hills is littered pretty bad.

May I suggest a cal guns range clean up ASAP? But if you want to get out there very soon, then please send me a private message. A group clean up I hope would send the message to the feds that we care about the land.

Check with Sdfire. He's been leading the charge on range cleanups.

Same could be said for all the shooting areas we?ve lost over the decades before the internet was a thing.

I certainly hope the trash doesn?t belong to a fellow calgunner.

Totally agree. I hope it doesn't belong to one of us. I used to go out there every weekend for brass and there used to be quite a bit of brass. I didn't mind picking it up, but I ran into my fair share of recreational shooters that left trash everywhere.

I got really mad one day at two groups. One group brought out a 6 foot plush teddy bear they were going to blast with a 12g. I asked them if they understood the mess it was going to create and they didn't care. Fortunately, I was able to get hold of the ranger at the time and that solved that problem. Ranger Funk was awesome.

The other group was a couple red neck hacks who shot off a huge number of shot shells and just left them and the clay mess. Had to be 150+ shells they left just strewn about and what was left of the tree they blasted. Found car fenders, a small microwave, parts to what could only be a washing machine, etc.

              Then there was the BBQ.

Perhaps I'll go out there next weekend and see what I can get out of there.

The hassle is getting through the gate. Since Ranger Funk retired it's a chore getting vehicles in to do clean ups. You can drag contractor bags a quarter mile to the road if you want.

Guarantee that is not a problem because I've done it before. You talk to the border patrol check point, or just wait a few minutes (they're always going through it).

Alternately, one person leaves their car outside the gate so that when you're done, you just drive the very short distance to the checkpoint and tell them you're finished. SDFIRE has done it before and so have I.

They hate the trash as much as we do and it's no issue at all for them to stop by and open the gate. If you really don't want to bother them, you don't usually have to wait too long for them to pass buy and they go through it.

Sdfire founded the organization SDMUST. Their website can be found here: https://sdmust.org/

If you scroll down to the bottom of the webpage, you will see a photo of one of his BLM clean-ups.

                            I am the OP:
Pink Gate open as of April 5, 2024
Still a bunch of trash, I just don?t mean the garbage on the ground.
This doesn?t feel like locals or native Californians but I say that because this is my hope, as us locals know how difficult it is to hold unto our shooting spots. Here are some pictures from yesterday afternoon. I took a large trash bag and filled it up. It?s like a drop in the bucket but every little bit helps. I always pick up my brass, can?t say the same for the guy next to me shooting his .223.
I often walk out of there with a bag full of reloadable brass but really would just prefer people pick up their s.h.i.t.
The trash bridge across the creek was also removed. If you left the lumber in the creek then you will have to get your socks wet, sorry not sorry.
Also, I figure it?s non locals because some ppl clearly don?t understand that there are regulations for how close you can shoot to a road, which of course is not being respected. There are even ?no shooting? markers.
Here are some more pictures, last photo is me bragging (15 yards, Springfield XDM 9mm, factory sites).

"This doesn't feel like locals or native Californians"

I'm pretty sure they are "locals". I doubt that peeps would travel all the way to Pink Gate from Imperial, Riverside or Orange counties. There are too many closer BLM available areas in Riverside and Imperial cos to warrant a drive to PG.

This cycle happens all the time. Publish or discuss a shooting site online, and the knuckle draggers find it, use it, trash it, and ruin it for everyone else.

First rule of good shooting sites is don't talk about good shooting sites....

Find any shipping labels on cardboard boxes, or other identifying info in
that trash? Post 'em up.... Google is our friend too...
