    A few years ago I looked into private outdoor ranges in north county and was recommended EF&GA and RR&GC.

    Escondido had a 2.5 year waiting list and you could only be sponsored by an existing member, would need go through an interview and vetting process, were required to volunteer a number of hours at the range per year and the fee was over twice as much as Rainbow. (which does cut out the riff-raff so I completely understand)

    I know 4 people who could have sponsored me but it would have still been 2.5 years before I could even be considered to become a member.

    I called Rainbow and they said "stop by anytime, we're here from 9am to 6pm or dusk 365 days a year". I did and spent about 10-15 min's talking with the RO and checking out the ranges and have been a member ever since.

    They are both fine ranges, check them both out and decide for yourself.

      Escondido took in an additional 1000 members. If there was a time to apply- it was 3 months ago, or tomorrow. You need to volunteer to help out with range maintenance for 5 hours a year, for your first 5 years.

      If you have no interest in joining, I would still recommend any of the shooting events that are open to the public. Pictures of the AR/Pistol 2 gun match;

        Look up LGRGC on Practiscore and show up at either the Hybrid or Action match. It will give you the opportunity to talk to members, show your interest and acquire a sponsor.

          Lemon Grove Gun Club in Alpine. You can attend a meeting (I believe) and get a sponsor there.
          Visit their website....https://lgrgc.com/
          They are having an open to the public Sporting Clays Shoot tomorrow, Sunday, 11/28/21 if you can make it to take a look around and meet a few peeps.

            Why does the Rainbow Range FAQ's about membership tell you to bring your NRA membership card. Do you have to be an NRA member?

              Yes, that is one of their requirements.

                I definitely want to check out a match at Escondido sometime. It looks like a really cool range.

                The NRA membership is also a requirement at West End up in Lytle Creek. I was on the waitlist for 2.5 years before I got membership there.

                  People keep buying houses next door to Rainbow Range and bringing law suits as if they didn't know people where shooting guns next door for 75 yrs. Everyone that shoots should be part of a 2nd A org to protect them. I don't mean one a those gun groups like Maxine Watters supports eg Cripps and Bloods.

                    bringing this thread back to life, any place in san diego that has long distance target shooting? private property (with owners permission) or gun club? with at least 300 yards and preferably farther? i dont think SBRGC allows steel targets on their rifle range, but i could be wrong on that.
