We used to shoot here all the time when my parents first moved there about 30 years ago. 33.680553, -117.202377

people do shoot in that area. at the base of double butte east of heritage lake. from what i can gather its not blm. it might be private land. people have reported being checked by law enforcement and then just told to be careful. i have also had other tell me that LEO have told them to leave. so i guess it depends on who you get.

This is on the corner right? where all the concrete pads are? I saw 3 trucks there today, I drove back there a week or two ago and there are shell casings and shooting trash all over.

Had no idea there were so many Calgunners in my neck of the woods. We need to have a meetup for locals!

I just drove through that entire area and I HIGHLY doubt it is legal to shoot there. The area was heavily trafficked by commuters and there was track housing and obvious private property in close proximity. Those who have previously used the area for target shooting have done so at their own risk, and previous encounters with RSO were lucky to get a deputy who simply told them to leave or be careful.

By the way, this area was even less remote (more developed) than the area off of Nichols and I-15 in Lake Elsinore where people were being told to leave by deputies. You're best bet to be legal in this area is to go to Steele Peak (BLM) when it isn't closed for "fire danger" (BLM excuse), or the Forest Service land on Highway 74 (Florida Ave.) east of Hemet before you go up the mountain.

I live pretty close to Sun City/Perris/Quail Valley. Lots of housing around here and more going up every few months. I hike in the hills east of Menifee pretty regularly and I see brass and fired shotgun shells all over.

                    shooting menifee /suncity area???

The area is definitely illegal to shoot. Lookup the Riverside county shooting ordinance, it details where you can and can't target shoot in Riverside county.

The basics are no shooting within 1 mile of incorporated cities, homes, 500 yards from roads I think, things like that.

Also, that area is all private property. The area that is county land is Double Butte park and is a no shooting area.

I'd like to go check out some local land as well. I don't trust the typical ranges so I'd prefer the open land to shoot and set up my own course of fire.

So it sounds like Steele Peak and the area east of Hemet are the only two free areas to shoot at around here. Can you guys provide any suggestions or insight for shooting at either location?
Help keep free shooting areas free. Pick up your trash before you leave, and also take as much of the trash left by idiots as possible.

Wait until they're reopened after fire season, and bring lots of trash bags.

                            Just an FYI,
The other day RCSO responded to the new housing development off the 74 behind Heritage High School because someone shooting in the hills off to the East decided to let a round fly into the housing development and went into someones living room. The bullet was recovered and while identifying the shooter is remote, it does not bode well for shooting out there on the East side of the hills. While there are still people shooting out there today, I would expect that it won't last much longer.

Something like this was only bound to happen there. I drove by this location the other day and the area around the concrete pads is littered with trash as well. In addition to shooting, people have been using that area as their personal landfill. I wouldn't be surprised to see signs posted around that location soon and more frequent patrols by Riverside Sheriff's deputies.

THE ONLY LEGAL PUBLIC SHOOTING AREAS IN THE WESTERN HALF OF THE COUNTY ARE STEELE PEAK AND BEE CANYON WHEN THEY AREN'T CLOSED FOR FIRE SEASON.

The area off Nichols Rd. and I-15 in Lake Elsinore is also not a legal shooting area. My friend was there a couple of weeks ago and was visited by deputies who told him to leave the area.
