Hodge Road group shoot and clean up

I want to organize a local group shoot and clean up for Hodge Road.

I was out there about 3 months ago and it was fairly clean, some trash but not terrible. I went back out last week and it is filthy. I mean tv's, propane tanks, ammo boxes, tons of junk kind of filthy. Arrogant shooters are going to ruin the open BLM land for the rest of us if they keep leaving trash.

Now, you may be asking yourself, what can I do? I feel so helpless...

Alas, there is something you can do to help:

A group shoot and clean up. This has worked in the past and has helped clean up other local BLM areas.

    What we do:
    Show up
    shoot (responsibly)
    Pick up trash.

Everyone will be required to pick up their trash along with, at a minimum, one bag of existing trash per person in your vehicle. It won't get rid of all of the trash but it sure will make it look cleaner. It would be nice for pickup truck drivers to offer up some of their bed space for those in sedans. I'll even supply the black bags and a case of H2O for the day.

Now don't fret, this won't be until after the holidays. I'm shooting (no pun intended) for a weekend in February or March. I'd like to make this a biannual event, or quarterly if there was enough interest. Any who, as I get more interest, I'll provide a more definitive date/time/meeting location.

Lets save some BLM land while throwing the proverbial lead down range.

I am always willing to give back/help out. I am newer to Socal and I have never been to Hodge Road, but this sounds great. I have a pickup and a smaller military flatbed trailer.

Issue with Hodge is that it is private property, not blm land. Therefore any liability falls on the land owner, it has been an issue in the past, you need a cold range to safely clean, you need local LEO or Rangers to assist... see where things are going. However respect to your efforts and in no way am I discouraging this project

Interesting Calico, Thats the first I'm hearing of it. I was told by several people it's BLM land. I was certain the other side was of the freeway was BLM as well as I know a lot more people who ride off road out there. Thank you for the insite, I'll look more into it,

It's a bit of column A, column B. If you look at a BLM map, there is BLM land heading west on Hodge, but it's a small portion compared to the privately owned areas. I'll see if I can dig up my map and scan it in.

It is literally surrounded by BLM< East of the Frwy is off road only as everyone knows.

The official start point is north of Hodge to the West and is SHOTGUN only, you may view this on maps provided by the bureau. The true open shooting area is not until you get up towards calico, past the actual outlets etc. The reason why hodge does not get flack is due to it being private property and unless called the sheriff will not patrol. I have had conversations with LEO's in the area and they just assume stay away from Hodge as well as it is a bit of a cluster whatchamacallit.

The land is owned by a trust and the attorney for that trust is here in SoCal .

You would need some liability waivers and the expressed permission from the land owner (more to it, just a nutshell version)

I would love to clean up Hodge, its a great place and I know personally of 50 that would attend, it is just making sure that it is proper and having a CalGun backing is nice as well, but this too requires making sure it is all done properly.

Well shoot, you learn something new every day don't you? Thank you for the info Calico, I appreciate it. Guess I'll find a new legal shooting area. hah (I honestly prefer lytle creek to the desert, but sometimes they aren't open, and sometimes you really want to shoot more than paper at 100 yards)

Its a shame about the convoluted BLM/Private Property situation, was up there recently and it could certainly use the help. I've seen the difference one day and a bunch of dedicated CalGunners can have on a spot. If it does come together somehow, you can't count me in.
