    Never mind this request (please ignore it)

    I am no longer seeking anything, from anybody, on here.

    Too many personal attacks for my taste.

    So, even though I'm a newcomer to guns/shooting, I'll seek opportunities to learn elsewhere, and I'll seek other venues or groups to learn from, and other (slightly less hostile) fellow gun enthusiasts to get to know.

    To those that were nice, THANKS!

    To the rest of you who were not so nice, I bear you no ill will, and I wish you the best. Although its clear that this forum is not the sort of place I want to be involved in.

    I don't begrudge you. I'm enough of a Libertarian to live and live, if you want it to be a rough and tumble place, that jumps on newcomers, so be it. It your forum after all, I was just your guest.

    I have left calguns (so you have that as a bonus too)

    and, as I'm sure you are not psychopaths (meaning it can't be really be fun for you to internet-insult some new guy) I'm sure you're of the same mind.

    And hey, I'm no masochist (so being piled up upon is not to my liking either).

    Heres to hoping that we both enjoy the rest of our lives, and our gun hobby/interest ....separately.

      yes, thats still out of my budget, i was hoping for something free (or near free)

      but still, a most useful tip ...after all, why not learn on a gun thats not top of the line?

      after all (at this point) just owning a gun that i can learn on is the main thing.

      besides, i wasn't EXPECTING anyone to give me their old, unused gun (but i did have to ask as a part of my "being proactive in my own life" plan)

      so, i shall start saving. heck, i'd even start trying to hustle work at the home depot if i didn't think those guys would shiv me for trying to find work on "their turf".

      but seriously, thats a great idea! i looked into them as a result, and i'll start putting away any penny i can until i get to $180 - plus the ridiculous govt fees that i have to pay to the public "servants" (who know whats best for me) so that i can exercise one of my fundamental "rights"

        I apologize if I ask you rather harsh questions. What's the actual reason to have a gun? And are you in not too good situation, financially ?

          You may need to do a budget review. Sounds like the initial task of saving up for a low end gun might not be easy for you. You have the gun + it's fees + $25 for the FSC + eye & ear protection. But mostly you need to consider ammo cost and range fees. You might be able to find ammo for $12.50/box ($25 for 100 rnds). So a trip to the range, ammo=$50, range fee=$10-$15, gas to get there etc, can easily be a $75 day out. Shooting a couple hundred rounds is a pretty light shooting day for most people.

          If your goal is to learn to shoot, Think seriously about starting with .22 Cal. But if your goal is to learn plus have something for home defense, stick with 9mm and budget carefully.

            I am pretty new to this too.. But just after a couple of months of shooting, I have come to realize that the cost of the gun is just the beginning. If $180 is already too expensive, I honestly don't know if you should put too much $$ into a purchase at this time.

            Ammo and range time are really gonna build up. Maybe get a 1 year membership at a range where rentals and range time are included?

                I think you are overboard on the response above, the question of why you want a gun is more likely to be do you want a gun for self-defense, concealed carry, or shooting paper. The type of gun changes based on the reason. When you answer that, other folks will provide better suggestions for the kind of gun you want.

                For example, a "decent" .22 revolver can be had in the low 100's new if you just want to start a new hobby and learn.

                If you want to protect yourself at home, a 9mm is more likely.

                If you want to carry, you'll get a lot of opinions.

                Please start off less defensive, most of the CGers are here to help, but do not like to give advice without more details to avoid sh**storms.

                  If you can't afford the gun how do you expect to feed it lol..... you even might be able to get a used hi point for around 100 in the classifieds.

                    I applaud your ambition. The more responsible shooters there are, the more shooting will be seen responsibly.

                    Obviously, you know this is going to be an expensive hobby; like horseback riding or skiing/snowboarding. At least, you will be a person who values every bullet and will put it towards improving accuracy.

                    Save what you can, buy what you can, go shoot when you can, repeat. Then when you can afford to get more bullets, super happy fun time will follow

                      How can you afford ammo for your free gun? Most people usually shoot $50-60 worth of ammo in 1-2 range sessions.

                            Ghee99 calm down dude, I'm asking that so I can know what you want to do with gun, SD/HD, paper etc. Not so good situation, financially means a polite way to ask you if you got not much money to buy a gun.
