As one of the instructors I am very happy to hear this. We always love the big smiles the ladies have at the end of the day. As for additional training there are many options depending on what she wants to do. Just get more accurate? Spend time at the local range practicing the fundamentals that were taught. Get into competition? There are several places to shoot IDPA or USPSA around the SoCal area. You can find out more in the Competition threads. Looking for self defense classes? There are a myriad of classes oriented to this around the area as well. Just check out the training area in the Competition thread as well.

    Did she shoot the .480?

PM720 said it right. The fun never has to stop. Keep her shooting. There are so many fun ways, fun targets and options available.

Maybe look into the Winchester/NRA program and start her collecting patches, pins and rockers with appropriate paperwork.

Thanks for the follow up and kind words, those of us who volunteer do it for the reward we get, which is usually a huge smile and lot's of enthusiasm.

Thank you for passing your GFs thoughts about the day. I, too, was one of the instructors and seeing what you wrote is reward enough for me...though seeing new brand new shooters moving from being "nervous" to having fun is right up there as well.

But, the truth is, I probably get as much enjoyment as the women do...maybe more. They're great students,

You've gotten some pretty good recommendations for further training, but all also add the monthly shoots to the list. While not training, per se, it would be a great opportunity for her to mingle with other shooters and expose her to the social side of the sport.

        Thank you again,

        Dave

I think you were the one asking for directions up the hill? If so, sorry for not recognizing you. Thanks for the feedback on the class.

I was one of the instructors at the class. One thing I have noticed with these classes is that some of the students became less nervous about handling a firearm. Some of these students became better shooters by the end of the day which makes us instructors happy as we did our job.

The volunteers are truly doing God's work in helping our cause. Every person we introduce to shooting sports is a convert and a voter on our side.

The last time I took a female friend shooting, she went from terrified of them and shaking during the in-home safety briefing; to "holy sh*t that was awesome when are we going again?!". Keep up the good work!

Sorry if this is obvious, but is there a schedule of upcoming classes somewhere?

              TIA

You can typically find a schedule here: CGSSA Website.

And, the schedule is stickied around Calguns when it is published. I think this forum will have it, as well as the women's forum. If you visit the link above, you'll find a shotgun class for January. I haven't seen the complete 2015 schedule yet, though I could have missed it somewhere.

Glad to hear she took the class and loved it. It's been a few months since I've been able to teach there and it's good to hear the classes are still going great.

Foward assist is a good place to start. Their courses are reasonably priced. I've had the pleasure of working with Ken and Dan at the WOT classes and they're great instructors.

Also you might want to have start on the Winchester qualification. She likely received the first rocker I think the "Practical Shooter" from the WOT class. She can start on the Winchester qualification at most of the calguns events. I believe the monthly Firing Line shoot in Burbank is running it on a steady basis and we're still working on getting it at all the rest of the events.

Remember WOT is also doing a shotgun class in January and rifle classes throughout next year as well.
