Is it legal to buy ammo by mail in Norwalk?

    Hello,

My apologies if this question has been asked previously. As I understand it (from reading previous posts) it's illegal in the city of LA to buy ammo by mail, but not cities in LA County unless if the city has specific ordnance against it.

However, when I asked Norwalk Sheriff's department for clarification, they told me that it's illegal in LA County to buy ammo by mail, and this includes the city of Norwalk.

I've written to the Sheriff's to request clarification in writing, but have yet to receive a response.

The sherif is wrong. There are some cities that have ordinances that prohibit online ammo sales but it's not county wide check with the vendor, but for the most part they list the cities of San Fransisco, Oakland, Los Angeles.

I know if you can write Los Angeles in as your city its a no go.... Can you write Los Angeles instead of Norwalk by chance?

Also at your local ammo retailer in Norwalk, do you need to show ID like in LA city?

Some vendors refuse to ship ammo to California even if it's legal in the city it's going to.

No, I found a good price on ammo only to find out they don't ship to California.

Ive shipped to Paramount before with no problem. but its been over a year since I ordered ammo online. I know the city of LA doesn't allow it. But Norwalk isn't LA

But it depends on the site

Cheaper than dirt would ship to this zip code 90650, 51 and 52.

Like everyone else said, it's only illegal in the city of LA, and certain counties in CA, but not LA county itself. I think it's just the vendor that doesn't want to haggle to find out which cities he can and can't ship to in CA. I know Gander Mountain won't ship to CA at all, even though I just want projectiles, no actual live ammo, while Cabela's ship live ammo to me in Downey without a problem.

I live in Downey and Gander ships to me all the time. Don't know who you talked to but I have had an account with them since last year. I just order on line.

Never ask a leo for info on ammo or firearms especially desk jockey at lasd. LA county has no such restrictions.
