    Gun Range Recommendations

    Hi!

I'm completely new and am getting interested in firing a gun, in fact I haven't even held a gun let alone fired a gun yet, but I'm attending a gun safety training class in a couple of weeks and I am looking at gun ranges which I can rent a weapon to try many different types.

I have no idea what type of gun I like (haven't fired one yet) or caliber so I'm hoping to find a range with a massive amount of choices, is safe and preferably a flat fee so I can try any gun I like so I can make an informed decision when I eventually go to purchase a handgun.

I'm aware of the LAX Gun Range in Inglewood but was wondering what others are out there that people would recommend?

I apologize if this has already been asked or a thread already exists but I was unable to find it in my search. Knowing my luck it's a sticky post somewhere in plain sight that I overlooked. Also searching on google hasn't been very helpful.

    Thanks!

You may want to check out Los Angeles Gun Club:

Oak Tree Gun Club is a good place to try out different guns. I think it's usually $20 range fee and $10 rental fee. You can try out as many of the pistols you want with that rental fee. Just have to use their ammo.

If you're willing to drive to Stanton, Fieldtime Target and Training is a great facility.

I can't recommend LAX. I've seen and heard about too much unsafe gun handling there.

For the most peace of mind a place like Angeles Shooting Range http://www.angelesranges.com/ is nice because you have range safety officers there making sure everyone is doing things safely.

I haven't been there in a while but Sharpshooters in Torrance is a decent indoor range. L.A. Gun Club is ok too.

I think the too much unsafe handling goes to the L.A. Gun club.
LAX is actually a safer range in my opinion. LA chapter Calgunners do a shoot there once a month. I think were both going haha

Agree with the unsafe gun handling at LA gun club.

Plus at most ranges if you rent their guns you need to either own and have with you an existing firearm or be there with another person.

Keep an eye out in this forum, there are monthly Calgun's shoots at both LAX firing range and Burbank firing range. Lot's of good Calgunner's come and many times if you bring/buy ammo they will let you shoot their guns.

LA Gun club is kinda shady, but I do frequent it due to Proximity.

If you feel like joining a bunch of your fellow Calgunners and getting a more personalized introduction to firearms, feel free to join our Monthly LAX Range shooting event. It's tomorrow (Wed April 10) night @ LAX Range from 7pm-10pm, and a few of us usually do dinner @ Roscoe's down the street after.

Just identify yourself by screen-name and pay the Calguns discounted $10 fee, $2 range setup fee, and any rentals you want to try will be available as well.

The BONUS CONTENT (lol) is that if you just ask, there will be over 10 fellow calgunners there with their personal firearms who would be happy to let you shoot a few (or more than a few, if you want to buy the ammo) rounds through their pistols or rifles.

Feel free to sign up, come by and socialize. All are welcome. (link below)

Thank you for the responses and suggestions all. Looks like I got some homework to do. I also found some other suggestions on yelp (who knew!), it never initially occurred to me I would find gun ranges on yelp. Although if I think about it, it makes sense since they have nearly everything else.

I like the thought of joining the event tomorrow, I just wouldn't trust myself to handle another person's gun until I take a basic handgun training class so that way I will do a few less things that are completely noobish.

Thanks again! I do appreciate the helping of a newbie such as myself.

If you can drive to Burbank, The Firing Line has a pretty friendly staff and an ok selection of firearms. If you really want to check out a bunch of different guns come out to the Calguns monthly shoot at the Firing Line on the last Friday of every month. There are a ton of different guns that we all bring and most people are more than happy to let you shoot off a couple of rounds with their guns, not to mention the discount for rentals to calgunners, the great company and lot of advise from a lot of experienced shooters.

If you go to LAX don't be shy. Most of us are more than happy to give you tips and more than willing to help you properly operate firearms. If you are looking for a class to take or an instructor I would like to recommend our own RoundEye (Chad): http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=703081

Not only do you learn about firearms but a percent of the proceeds go to Calguns!

+1 for Oaktree if you're near the SF valley area. Friendly place, huge selection of rentals, halfway decent ammo prices.

Well, yeah, but I'm hoping that since it's a CGN event things will be safer.

                          I guarantee that.
Any of you though hit me up when you plan to go to LA gun club just to shoot between cal gun range meets. I hate going there alone . (all my gun savvy friends are still in the military )

I used to go there just to buy ammo. But recently they stopped selling but you can still take some "to go" when you shoot at their range.

Insight shooting range in Artesia is a great place to go.
                            California is lost.
