New to L.A. - Shipping and Ownership Advice Request

I'm new here, and took some time to look through the great information in the FAQs, but didn't find an answer to my specific question (I'm sure it's been covered, but couldn't find a thread). I thought I would ask here in case anyone has advice...

I recently moved to LA from Illinois, where I owned a Springfield XD. I left the gun with family, due to the high capacity magazines, but am now interested in getting the gun to me here. Would it be possible to ship the firearm (without the magazines) to me from another individual, or would I be better suited to avoid the hassle and just repurchase here in state? Thanks in advance...apologies if this thread would be better suited elsewhere.

You might also have trouble with shipping, it has to go from a ffl holder to another one unless it is a repair.
