I'm pretty sure the range is going to be closed next weekend because of the moto gp race. There's a steel pistol range and 2 steel gongs at 300 yards up on a hill. You can setup targets on the rifle side up to 200 yards though.

Also ChrisXD45T is a member here at calguns and works at the range. If you have any questions he should be able to answer all of them.

Yeah, the range will be closed 7/15 - 7/20 because of the MotoGP race.

You can set up paper targets at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards, and there's a couple of steel plates at 300 yards.

You talking about the beach ranges at Fort Ord? The ones you could see from Highway 1?

There used to be a small building out there on the access road that led out to those dunes. It was a 50' indoor range. I spent many Saturdays and Sundays out there while in high school, shooting one of the club's .22 Anschutz rifles.

I always love driving through marina/seaside seeing all those old ranges next to the ocean.

Yep - Closed for the MotoGP

Closed for the MotoGP. That's OK, I'll be at the races anyway.
Laguna Seca is a really nice range. That's where I usually go to shoot, especially for rifles.

What year for your Basic Training? That's where I took my Basic Training also, in January of 1969. Also with an M14 - damn thing sure got heavy running to the range & all. A lot of Fort Ord is torn down now - the Monterey Bay University used a lot of the property. My barracks is still standing tho. Pretty nolstagic going thru there.

I always shake my head as I drive through campus as I imagine the look on some parents faces as they see the 100's of abandoned buildings surrounding the campus. I would never send a daughter there. Those buildings just scream rape/crime.

I was about five years before that. The barracks were all new then...
Yup, doubletiming to the range was pure delight. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
