    I.E. Indoor Range availability

I live in the I.E. (Murrieta) and have no local indoor range. I was wondering how difficult it would be to open one up. Does anyone think there is a necessity to have a range in the area?

    ideas?...thoughts?

          You got 1-2 million bucks?

That is the estimate of the cost to open an indoor range thesedays. You need to have

          building, site,
          insurance
          air system
          target system
          lane dividers, desks
          ammo to sell
          guns to rent
          targets
and other things that will add costs.

Temecula/Murrieta area is not that big IMO and I wonder how much business you can get. The closest indoor shooting range I can think of is Riverside magnum range, and considering the population of Riverside and vicinity it is marketable, but I don't know of it being similar for Temecula/Murrieta area.

I think that the easier availability of outdoor ranges makes an indoor range less appealing.
The main appeal to indoor ranges is always in densly populated areas where people don't want to drive a distance to get to an outdoor range and you could not have an outdoor range within a densly populated area.

I have shot there twice over the last 18 years.
I just don't see the need for going to an indoor range when outdoor ranges are easily accessible.

IIRC, there used to be an indoor shooting range in the Temecula area. Some of my co-workers mentioned it when I worked in Temecula. This was like 10 years ago though. It was somewhere around the DMV office vicinity (west of I-15/Winchester Rd). This was before the Temecula/Murrieta area big BOOM so they probably didn't have a lot of patrons then. I wonder if it's feasible for somebody to open one now that we have a denser population. Anybody?

I have thought about this also. I live in Lake Elsinore and don't like to drive to riverside to go shooting. Granted rainbow is just a few miles away, but I don't always work normal hours and would like to get out and shoot. Indoor ranges are great when you don't have a lot of time, or its dark outside.

Whachu talkin bout willis?!?!?! People pay extra for night shooting! WEGC members get 24 hour access. Shoot anytime day or night. And we have shot precision tactical at midnight... Yes you can see with a day time scope, as long as the target itself is lit. Lots of fun!

Riverside is not that far from Elsinore though. Like 40 minutes. Takes me longer than that to get from Riverside to WEGC. Took 2 hours to get to APS for last weeks match.

I'd love to see a large indoor range in Murrieta or Temecula. I live in Murrieta but work in San Diego. Most ranges are closed by the time I get home. I think a range would do well. Where do Murrieta and Temecula PD shoot as well RSO? They are also potential clients

About 6 months ago, I spoke with the owner of The Shootist, a gun store in Murrieta and the only gun store around since the one in Temecula closed last year. I asked him that specific question (indoor gun range).

He said he tried about 5-6yrs. ago, but the land expense was an inhibiting factor and that's before getting into the other expenses mentioned by Slowshooter.

When I lived in Riverside, I used to go to the Magnum Range and liked it, but that was when the prior owners owned it and Louis was the RO there. I have gone to it once since I moved and I'm not impressed with the guy that worked there and the skinheads that were shooting shotguns there.

What I like about an indoor range is you do not have to join if you don't want to, but can still shoot there. Most outdoor ranges, if I'm not mistaken, are membership only or you have to be a guest of a member (I realize Lytle Creek is one of the exceptions and there are others).

MURRIETA45, the next closest indoor range is Iron sights in Oceanside. I don't live too far from you (French Valley) and if you want to go there sometime together to shoot, I'd be glad to go with you. It is a nice place and the staff have always been polite to me. It's 36 miles from my home.

Otherwise there is Rainbow, just outside Temecula (outdoor).

                              Let me know.
