Can someone please tell me exactly where this Hodge road shooting area is? I've been looking for BLM land to shoot and I've heard of this place several times. But a Google Map search only brings up this small road off "National Trails Hwy" maybe 4-5 miles north of the 15 and it doesn't look too shooting friendly.

        Thanks

I live about thirty minutes from there and go out regularly to shoot.

Yes it is legal and I've been told so by both SBSO Barstow and Barstow BLM. Be at least 150 yards from the cell tower to avoid problems.

This is important - ONLY be on the north/west side of I-15. The other side is an OHV area and strictly illegal for any kind of shooting.

Watch for CHP on the freeway in the area. The've been known to pace vehicles getting back on the south 15....... and a few folks have gotten themselves more than a traffic ticket for having things out there that they shouldn't. It doesn't happen often but......

Please...... what ever you take out there, bring back. The place is getting really littered up and sometimes I wonder if it will get closed because of illegal dumping.

Watch out for the brass scroungers. They scavenge empty brass for recycling. I've never had a problem but have heard that one does get aggresive on occasion. Also one time there was a mother/daughter duo scrounging, their english wasn't very good and they had a hard time grasping the consept of a hot range.

Watch your backstop, a lot of folks go out there and think shooting in any direction is ok. Then you get reports of people taking incoming rounds.

As a courtesy, if the place is not too crowded, please don't park right next to someone else. Most of us who go out there like a little privacy.

          Jim

I-15 north out of Victorville. Hodge Rd exit, turn left.

I'll second what Jimbo said, clean up what you take out there, and if you can, take a little extra, there are a lot of young people (dont take it the wrong way if youre of the younger crowd, so am I) that shoot up a couple hundred rounds and dont pick anything up. If you go down the dirt road a ways you can find decent spots to shoot with good safe backdrops, but do be aware of who is to the left and right of you, there are lots of people out there!

Just kinda confused cause it looks pretty residential. Plus this road is like 4-5 miles off from the 15 so I don't see how anyone can mistakenly be on the south/no shooting side.

Plus there is a road like 200 meters from the end of this "Hodge Road"....unless there is a really tall dirt backstop.

                Thanks

Thank you all for the info. I promise to clean up the last thing i want to lose is another shooting spot.

Thats too far to the west. From there take Stoddard Mtn Road towards the 15. Google maps lists the Hodge Rd exit as Stoddard Mtn Rd. Stay on that west of the 15 and you're fine. Also, buy a San Bernardino shooting map to have specific areas outlined.
If you are wondering if you can get a LTC in Riverside County: THE ANSWER IS YES!

Thanks....so basically any area right off Stoddard Mountain Rd between the National Trails Hwy and 15 is GTG? As long as it is a certain distance from the 15 and any residential house right?

And I'll try to find that map.

Really easy. The 15 exit is marked Hodge. It's the next exit north of Wild Wash Rd.

Actually its right in the notch that transitions from the shotgun only area.

Got that from a BLM Ranger when my son and I were Jack Rabbit hunting near wild wash rd which IS shotgun only. We were hunting with shotguns btw.
