    Lytle Creek Range???

I have never went to the range in Lytle Creek, and after attempting to contact through email with no response for over two weeks, I am deciding to bring it to those who would know best.

    1. Is there a shop there that you can buy gear from: targets, rounds, etc...
    2. How does it compare to Burro Canyon?

    Thanks!

There is a shop there at lytle creek and they sell targets, and ammos...but itsbetter to bring your own 'coz theirs are little bit pricey....very friendly people and safe place to shoot....I like it there....

I haven't been to Burro Canyon.....

I have never been to Burro Canyon but they have a small selection of things, ammo, targets, and such but bring your own stand if you can. It can be hard to nail the wood into the hard dirt and the wind can take it down pretty easily.

They sell ammo and target there. I cant compare to Burro Canyon since I have never been there. My advice is to bring your own target stands cause the ones they sell are crappy. The dirt up there is hard and when your hammering in the targets they usually break apart.

ohhh...one more thing...don't bring any hi cap mags (unless you have papers).....forest rangers frequent that place lately.....and make sure if you have rifles (AR's, fal, etc.) should have BB.....again HAVE FUN!!!!

Lytle Creek is best used for rifle 100/200 yrds. They have a 25yrd min for handgun. Buying anything several miles from the main road is costly. They have ammo and targets, snacks. Their targets have little stakes that hardly pound in the ground before they break or the target backer comes unstapled. The ground is like granite. The wind can be wild and your targets will blow over just as shooting begins. Bring good heavy target stands even a 5gal bucket filled with rock can work. I bring metal stands and grocery sacks to put rocks in too weight the stand down. Bring my own targets to match the stands. No fruit or veggies as targets. Steel targets are allowed but at 25/50yrds pistol/rifle. Expect steel targets to get ruined by the jerks that shoot at other peoples targets. The weekday shooting is good but it can be crowded on the weekend, get there early. Most of the shooting benches are ok but some are not covered are on dirt and wobble most are on concrete and are solid at least, might want a table cover so as not to scratch your stuff. The staff are good on the weekends but hit or miss on weekdays. Your safety is up to you same as any place firearms are being shot. I won't go into weapon checks.
I am a member at Burro but haven't been for a year. Their public handgun range at that time had no min maybe different now that more public is showing up. Fruit and veggies galore. Public rifle range is nice covered, steady tables. Burro has private ranges that members may use and can be reserved far in advance for weekends. The private bays are great for pistol/carbine and rimfire but can be limited in range for centerfire rifle. They offer PVC target stands, with a deposit, ammo and snacks. I would stay away from the PVC stands some jackxxx shoots it and you pay, bring your own, wind is not usually a factor. It is packed on the weekend. Some report it is wild I haven't been there on a weekend for over a decade. Don't know about weapon checks but LEOs use the range on weekdays. Staff are a little unorganized but nice business like.

They have targets bring a hammer and care full when staking them they fall apart easy. They have ammo but its expensive your best bet is ammo bros or turners which isn't too far from there depending where your coming from its on the route there. They have the range too 300 yards. Be there around 930 or earlier or it will be packed.

A couple of additional things about Lytle:

Steel targets are supposed to be at 100 yards, not 50 due to the possible ricochet that may occur. If one of the range officers told you 50 was ok, I would suggest you confirm that at the office with Jeff the manager.

You are correct tho BSlacker about the jerks that will shoot at your target. I had mine damaged the first time I used it and it is armored. They left when we went to check out the target, so there wasn't much I could do.

Another important matter is that standard mags ("high capacity") are not permitted. This is not a rule implemented by the Range Staff, but by the Forest Ranger for the area. The land is leased from the Forest Service and they have to enforce the rules or be shut down.

That is why the Calguns Shoot 'n Q scheduled for April 3, was cancelled. The Calguns Foundation is looking into this and attempting to have this rectified.

I have shot there for 9yrs. and like it and will continue to go there even if the rule is not changed re the mags. The staff like Calgun members also and we probably will have a shoot there later this year.

I have never set a steel target farther than 50 yards for rifle at Lytle Creek. I go once a week and never a problem.
I use the two minute warning to, return weapons or mags that might attract attention, into my vehicle. Issue resolved. Although I have seen Ranger Dan lurking behind the back berm.
I quit taking my AR400 steel targets due to damage by others. They have shot up my nice steel target stands. I have had them pick up my steel target from 50yrds and take it out to 100yrds for themselves. TJ was on duty and they left quickly.
Its a nice range but some days it don't pay to bring the good targets.

Hey! I will be out there Fri 10th. I will be in a blue Ford Flex.

Was out there today. Great weather. Friendly staff as usual. Got signs now everywhere about "random checks" that look like they came from the Forest Service. Never saw him tho. Had one LE gun but after ID check the RO was fine with it.

I've never taken personal steel up there. I'd think at <100yds people wouldn't bother your personal stuff since they'd have to shoot at an angle, but I could be wrong. There are a couple "resident" steel targets at 200 (the gong) & 300 (some skinny poles you might not even see). Perhaps people get confused by these! Seems if it's up the hill it's fair game lol

The road up there is being repaved now, so pls drive carefully thru the loose gravel.

                              p.s. it's snake season!
