    Lytle Creek Range

I went to Lytle Creek for the first time yesterday. I have to say, I was not impressed. I was a little dissapointed that i had to buy targets, then there was no holders for the targets. you had to beat them into the ground which caused them to fall apart. but i guess this is just part of the learning curve.

i went to shoot my AR, but also wanted to shoot my handguns. i could not believe you could not place a target closer than 25 yards. still part of the learning curve i guess.

then, the dirty old guy who was the range officer was really obnoxious. all he did was try and tell everyone about the really big guns he has shot. always trying to one up everyone, and he talked like dale from king of the hill

then, we were constantly yelling at us about different rules that we had never heard of, and weren't listed anywhere.

lastly, when we were done and cleaning up our area, i was picking up my brass, when the old range guy told me i had picked up enough brass. i was only allowed to take my brass and if i took more than that, i was stealing. i informed him i had shot over 500 rounds and i only had picked up about 50. he tried to argue with me but i just ignored him, collected some more brass and went on my way.

needless to say i will not be going there again

    just wanted to rant

that sucks, I see you spend time in San Luis, and no Lytle creek does not hold a candle to SLOSA. Strange that you had issues with the RO, i mean sometimes they look scruffy and talk with an accent but usually they have been cool. But yes far and away the only thing I personally don't like about lytle is the lack of target holders.... but its only 25 min from my house down here and it works well.

This has always bugged me about some ranges, they lay claim to all the brass that falls. Some don't even allow you to harvest YOUR OWN BRASS. I think this should be considered petty theft, since some cal.'s are damn expensive, and only become practical to shoot regularly when you reload them (10mm comes to mind).

If the brass is completely abandoned by the owner, I can understand them making a claim on it.... IF they ever harvest it. I've been to ranges that were littered with brass in various stages of corrosion and damage. I'm not a brass hound yet, but I'm getting there.

If I'm interpreting you right you're talking about Inland Fish & Game located in Redlands/Highland. Last I checked, and the way it seems still on their site, they've been shut down. There was a lawsuit about potential lead poisoning or something to the nature and so they have ceased shooting until they can appeal or fix the problem. They still are open for people to stop by and they have potlucks but it's been shut down as a range. If you meant Redlands Trap and Skeet then that's just shotgun.
As for Lytle, it's just one of those places you have to get used to to enjoy. I had a similar experience my first time but after learning the tricks it's been better. Next time take a metal stake and a hammer and make pilot holes for the target holder, then you don't have to try and beat it into the ground. Otherwise you can bring all your own target stuff. Hell they'll let you shoot bottles and cans if you pick them up. The thing I hate the most is the ceasefires. I know there's no way around them but if they happen in the middle of a good grouping it throws me off. I was shooting my first sub-moa group with my.223 one time taking my time. He yelled out one minute until ceasefire and then I felt rushed and pulled my next two shots. I wish they hand another range there that had a longer shooting window. 20 mins is not too long. Never tried pistols there.

I complained about the range master's rudeness to the person who collects the liability paperwork and she gave me coupons for two free days.

Redlands Fish and Game has been closed for over a year.... Try West End Gun Club in Devore.

I like Lytle Creek range, the folks were nice and the rules are lenient for me. Although the range is better suited for rifles IMO. One time I was shooting a semi-auto WASR and was accused by a range officer of it shooting full-auto which it did not. But overall I have no issues with that range.

                            bulletbutton and a preban 30-round mag .
That would be an assault weapon as defined by CA.

Fixed mag (bulletbutton) with capacity to accept more than 10 rds = Assault Weapon.

You can only use your hi-caps with a NON-FIXED configuration.

What you said MUST have been a typo right? Because there's no way you'd admit to breaking CA law in a very public forum right?

Confirmed the Redlands pistol range closed a while ago, trap and skeet is the only one left, trust me I live right up the street..

As far a Lytle goes, I'm very surprised. I've been there several times over the last few months and have had nothing but a positive experience. RO's have been very cool to us. I think the younger RO (Travis?) is funny as hell, super cool dude.
Maybe it's just me, but I hate stupid people!
