    Info on Rainbow shooting range

Hey I'm thinking of joining the Rainbow shooting range I live in Murrieta so it's close. I haven't been out there so I was hoping to get some info. Is it worth the price??? How is it out there? Is it a good range? Well kept? Friendly staff and members? Any place to check out pictures of the place? How crowed is it usually?
    Thanks for any info.

First of all, don't talk to the guys at The Shootist because they are full of FUD. If you talked to them, you would never know you can shoot the black evil rifles at Rainbow because in their opinion, they are AW and you can't have 30 round pre-ban mags either as it's a felony. They are full of misinformation. Anything that is legal can be shot at Rainbow, they just don't allow rapid firing, tho I've heard it done before.

I have been a member for two years and like it. It is $145 to join and $15 for an associate membership. If you join, you can have your spouse, kids or grandkids under 18 join as an associate. You have to be with them when they are shooting, but what other private club has a deal like that. My grandson is an associate member and I take him there to shoot.

The members and staff are friendly. I think it is worth the price; $145 really isn't that much for a year and $120 to renew. The only downside that I have found and I can live with it, is the rifle course is only 100 yards long and that is simply due to the amount of land they have.

They hold trap matches every Sunday and a pistol match once a month. I haven't done either, but when I've shown up to just shoot, I've noticed they have a good turnout.

It has never been that crowded that I haven't been able to shoot, tho I would guess that could occur.

Bob, one of the RMs, is a funny guy, so don't be put off by his sense of humor.

I don't know what part of Murrieta you live in of course, but I live right next to the city in French Valley, so if you'd like to go there sometime, we are allowed to bring 2 guests at a time. The cost is $10 a guest.

Since my wife just had surgery, I won't be able to go for awhile, but you can go there and they will give you a tour and explain everything. If you join then and you want someone to shoot with, just let me know. There are also several members here that are members of Rainbow.

Did you get a chance to meet funny man RO Bob. He is a riot.

Congratulations on joining and perhaps we'll get together and shoot their sometime.

I just remembered I forgot to mention you have to be a NRA member to join and you can do so there if not already one for $25 IIRC. Obviously since you joined that was not an issue, tho I mention it for anyone thinking about joining.

I'm a member there. I used to also be a member at another nearby range, but decided to only hold one this year for economic reasons. I chose Rainbow because it is privately owned and there is not a bunch of gun club political bs...just a good place to shoot.

Also retired I hope all is well with your wife and I hope she has a speedy recovery. My wife is having surgery as will this week but once both our women are healed up we shoot meet up out at the range and shoot!

You mean like wolf ammo or the usual run of the mill eastern block unreloadable ammo? Yes. Steel core projectiles, don't know- it's kind of a fire hazard. I have been known to shoot some steel core in the wetter moths at clubs with good berms.

The pistol range requires unjacketed lead bullets at the plates- even though a lot of people don't follow that one.

I'm in Murrieta, and I used to shoot there quite often, but had to let the membership go a few years ago due to finances. Are they still on the program where you pay your dues in December/January, or did they finally switch to the month you joined? If they switched it to the month you joined, I'll be making a trip down there to get things taken care of as things aren't quite as financially bleak now as they were a couple of years ago. Otherwise, I know what the boys and I will be getting for Christmas
