i think BLM/National Forest shooting ranges are kind of like surf spots. people don't like to tell the world where their secret spots are because they think its everyone and their grandma is gonna go there.

Yep. Been there and seen that movie. Fellow taxpayers arguing over what freedom and sharing is all about.

Cedar Roughs in Napa county out on the north west end of Lake Berryessa is pretty rugged and hard to enter without waders on. But it is sure nice once you are up over the first ridge.

That's not a great attitude to get people into shooting.

I'm not suggesting people spill their secret hiding places. I provided two examples of places that are anything but exclusive areas. I don't remember exactly where, but there are a few regions (not localized places) I've been around apple valley years back that were apparently well known and perfect for camping, shooting, and rabbit hunting. I was hoping for places similar to the two examples I posted as well as general regions where people can go, drive around a bit to find a secluded area and set up camp.

Its a noble idea i suppose but the reality no one will give up there shooting areas. Mostly because they will get trashed. I am sure when you go shooting at BLM land you clean up after yourself but not everyone is like you. People will treat it as a dump and leave trash everywhere thus the BLM ranger will close the spot leaving yet another spot we cannot shoot on due to the selfishness of other people. So everything is kept hush hush don't expect this to become anything more than it already is.

Done. People want their secret hiding places? Enjoy them until the guns themselves get banned.

I just shoot in my "backyard" well, next to my garage. But, I'm willing to share the location of every public and private shooting range I've been to in the last year or two.

I agree with most of you that your shooting spot location will never be told. I have seen some spots that get completely trashed and closed due to irresponsible shooters whether from calguns or not. If you do your research and buy some BLM maps and use google earth you will find some spots to shoot. I have found a couple of spots by doing just that. I have never asked for a location to shoot, and have multiple locations to go. Good luck, I hope you find a place.

Its not that we all don't want to share our spots with fellow calgunners. As soon as you post the information of where to go in a thread it is now out in the public eye. Everyone with google and a gun can now find out about these spots.

This brings in the people who start bringing in tons of their trash to shoot and leave it there, thus forcing these spots to be closed one by one. Hence most people are hush hush about their spots. I've pm'ed a few calgunners about spots and they always provide them for me and at the end of every pm is either "leave it better than you came" or "make sure to clean up after yourself"

                      Happy gunning.

I have shared my spot with other calgunners via PM.

                          inbox485 -

I agree with you that it would be nice to share and make an effort to have some nice open shooting areas. But, as you've been out to Palm Springs BLM spots, you know that you can shoot out there every day for a month and bring back a 50 gal. trash bag every time and it would still look like a dump. It's very sad...

I've found most of my spots via calgunners or by being a nice guy at the "BLM range" or just asking around. As the previous responses indicate, i think most are more than willing to share on a PM or FTF.

Well if someone in SoCal, is willing to set up a meet where we could go, camp, shoot and eventually clean-up -before the area goes on lock-down- I'm willing to commit time, energy and what little available resources at my disposal.

                            Regards,

I've PM'ed a few local people info about my usual spot.
