I was on my way to the Bay area Friday and stopped in the Guns Fishing and Other Stuff in Vacaville. The main reason for the trip was to sight in my new rifle which has been tough to get around to with my hectic schedule.
We walked in the store front empty handed to confirm that they allowed AR 15's on the range. The Kid (Maybe low to mid 20's) at the front counter started spewing the most FUD I've encountered to date. He stated I had to prove I was a current LEO and that the rifle was registered AW as well as no more than 10 round mags and bullet button or fixed mag and a bunch of other crap. The problem was he would state every item with about 10 blah blah blah's in the middle while rolling his eyes so that it was very apparent he had NO idea what he was talking about; You have to have blah blah blah bullet button blah blah blah AW Registered BLah blah blah...
Whatever he was trying to convey the answer I heard was, "certainly, we allow .223/5.56 chambered rifles on the range."
Went back out to the truck to get my case and entered the range through the outside exit so as to avoid the "kid". Downstairs were a couple of really nice guys and I asked them as well if they allowed OLL AR15's. The older guy said yes but it has to pass inspection. I said no problem, opened the case and handed him the rifle. He checked the lower, bullet button, selector, etc and said, "looks good." We signed in and off we went to shoot.
Had the rifle dialed in (irons and red dot) at 25y within 30 minutes and fired off 100 or so rounds for good measure. The only problem we had was the targets getting stuck at the end of the lane but we just moved over one lane and all was good. Funny thing was as we were leaving I looked back at the original target and it was Swiss cheese! I told the guys at the counter as we left and they got very serious about it and said they'd look into it.
Overall impression was great! Staff was courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. Other than the kid upstairs we had a great time.
