We will be planning a shooting day on January 3rd.
Meeting location: Gopher Canyon Park-n-ride right off the I-15 Freeway. We can carpool in trucks and head out from there. We will meet at 10AM.
Shoot Location: Backside of Palomar Mountain. About 45 Minutes from the Gopher Canyon Exit off the 15 Freeway. The location is up a 5-mile fire road at about 4-5,000 feet elevation, east of Valley Center/Escondido.
Due to recent rains, it is best if you can bring a truck to take up the mountain. It's a rough road even when dry.
To give a description of the shooting location; once you get to the top of the mountain, there is a small access road that branches off the main fire road. The access road is 40 meters or so and takes you to a plateau that is elevated and centered around mountains. The plateau is 50 meters wide and 200 meters long.
It is somewhat difficult to explain, but when you are standing on the plateau - you can shoot into the mountains in front of you. We can walk across to the mountains and set targets. We can set steel at 200 yards all the way out to 1000 (if you want to walk out there).
There is only room for a few trucks on the plateau itself, so we can park the trucks on the fire road next to the access road.
NOTE: This is NOT a range - just a well-know shooting "spot". I have spoken with VC Sheriffs in the past, and they have no problem with people shooting up there.
Things to bring:
Tannerite
Benches/Tables (there is nothing there right now - I always bring a table when I shoot there)
Food
Drinks
Folding Chairs
General Firearm tools if possible in case of who-knows-what
And of course some of the best Mexican food is at this taco shop at the base of the mountain, so we can all grub there after the shoot.
RSVP here in this thread. PM me and Ill give you my phone number so we can all communicate easier.
I hope everyone can make it! Should be alot of fun.
