    Tahoe NF range closure?

I noticed that the range near Alder Creek in Truckee got closed down by USFS, does anyone have any info?

They removed all the trash and tilled the land, and posted up signs that the area was closed for restoration, no shooting. I'm assuming it is permanent.

Also, ever since they published the Tahoe NF travel management plan, we have been seeing lots us USFS presence in the area near prosser. Something is happening, I wonder if they are going to shut down the other ranges as well.

A group of Tahoe Donner residents succeeded in convincing the U.S. Forest Service to remove a nearby makeshift gun range that had seen increasing use in the past two years.

Some crybabies who own homes in the area. Have been spending there free time trying to get it shut down. They partially got what they wanted. Forest services bulldozed the place. Looks like the backstop or berm is gone.
You can still shoot, but better make sure you got a proper backstop.

The USFS is lying. They never put up signs at that location telling people that the noise was disturbing homeowners. At least none that I ever saw, and the nearest homes are quite a distance away behind a hill.

They currently have "no shooting" signs posted, so based on their own admission those signs are incorrect

Do you or can you get pictures of these signs?
Are they National Forest signs or are they from some other agency?
You should call the Tahoe national forest and ask about the signs you saw. Then quote the news article.

He has lived in Trukee for 35 years. I wonder why he is only now complaining about the gun range that has been in use for more then 20 years. "O" let me guess he bought a bigger home closer to the good old gun range.

Word of advice if guns are scary, don't buy a home next to a gun range!

Kind of like buying a retirement home. Next to a school and across from a playground. Then complaining about all the young wipersnapers running amuck and having fun. While you sit inside drinking prune juice.

The backstop is still there (the hill)

Don't get me wrong, it's not a great location for a range, and it was full of trash, and the bulldozing did "restore" the site. I understand people not wanting an active gun range next door.

However, since the intent was obviously to close it down for political reasons, that pisses me off. As bad as these ranges look, it is much worse when people litter all over the forest. I always see these piles of .223 or 7.62 back in the woods, with a bunch of trash and old electronics left behind, I assume it is people who don't want to use the normal ranges because they have black rifles.

I didn't realize the guy was part of Truckee Trails. My understanding is that they are one of the anti OHV organizations up there although I don't know whether they actively lobby or just give money to other groups. I wonder if that's how they got Tahoe NF to act.

I won't be up there until maybe a month from now, but one of my buddies might be able to take a picture of the sign. I think we should start a new range 50 feet down the road.
